I have Deadwood, Better Call Saul and The Sopranos ahead of me and honestly I’m equal parts ashamed / excited.

You’d think journalists would at some stage consider whether this war has been in Australia’s best interests, and whether there might be political consequences to Labor’s enthusiastic support

A massive victory in the war against upper-level setbacks!

The Mid-Rise Code offers greater housing certainty for Melburnians. It also winds back one of the most damaging and poorly evidenced planning controls: upper-level setbacks.

a while back a guy I knew was trying to justify having gone to Curtis Yarvin's wedding, and his girlfriend said "Don't you find him thrillingly contrarian' and I said 'That's how boring people excuse being racist'

The Albanese Labor Government is supporting bombing a country, then preventing people fleeing that violence from seeking safety here.

It is wicked.

Migrants are who we are - Grattan Institute When political opportunists come for migrants, it is kids in schools across this country who bear the scars.

My boss wrote a piece in support of migration – and migrants.

It’s good. Makes me proud.

I went to uni over there and got trapped during the GFC, ended up staying nine years total. Came home to Melbourne in 2015, haven’t been back since, absolutely no desire to either. You couldn’t pay me to go back.

Rest of the world though? Travel brings me nothing but joy.

Exclusive: Robodebt architect remains employed in a senior governance role in the public service Scott Britton was a national manager of the customer compliance branch in the Department of Human Services and signed a June 2014 minute that first detailed how robodebt would work.

From me: The architect of the Robodebt scheme, who was told it was unlawful even as he delivered it for the government, is still employed in the public service, now at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. And in a senior governance and risk role. www.crikey.com.au/2026/02/20/r...

The government just did what while we weren't looking?
The government just did what while we weren't looking? YouTube video by Guardian Australia

Proud to say I'm the ecologist Matilda Boseley is referring to re: quotes.

Minor correction, @australia.theguardian.com, it's greater gliders, not sugar gliders.

Great video, thank you!

Is this why Santa Monica is on remake duty for the God of War trilogy?

This is so frustrating. They could have been Sony’s answer to Nintendo’s relationship with Grezzo and continued doing remakes, maybe even some original Echoes of Wisdom style spin-offs.

My thoughts go out to these poor devs.

Help shape the future of Melbourne’s Activity Centres!

Community Reference Groups (CRGs) are being formed right now to provide local feedback to the upzoning plans.

If we want walkable, transit-oriented, and affordable neighbourhoods, we need YIMBYs in the room!

One site, two permits, two radically different reactions.

NIMBYs overwhelmingly weaponise the planning system against social housing.

It's time to stop listening to NIMBYs and build more homes.

Dearest gentle reader,
The social season is upon us, and so, perhaps one finds themselves amidst change.
Whether you've recently begun promenading the ton with your new match, or you find yourself once more unshackled from courtly pursuits, one must remember to make their relationship status known.
A moment tending to myGov to make your relationship known is most beneficial to ensuring your payments and services remain in good order.

The partner income test traps people in abusive relationships and dangerous households, and the Department is out here doing bad Bridgerton jokes about it

Commonwealth policy leaves young Australians locked out of community housing.

The "youth housing penalty" is one of the factors behind the low rate of social housing tenancies being offered to young people, currently less than 3%. 👇

Seattle schools have students shelter in place after reports of possible ICE activity Several Seattle public schools enacted shelter-in-place protocols Tuesday after receiving unconfirmed reports of possible ICE activity.

It’s so insane. I have friends in the US who are teachers, one of them in Seattle was telling me their school district enacted shelter in place precautions last week so their students don’t get kidnapped by ICE.

They said "a new timetable will be in place everywhere" - when the Metro Tunnel opens.
But many lines are missing out, and 30-40+ minute waits remain common. More PT services more often are needed to fix the public transport network, and keep people moving.

Also deeply distressing to see a party founded in racial hatred thriving in the immediate wake of an antisemitic terrorist attack.

If your main goal is anti-racism, this is a pretty horrific outcome!

Melbourne is in the middle of a housing revolution – have the yimbys already won? Advocates say even they are surprised by Allan government’s embrace of higher density housing, but warn construction costs risk city becoming ‘victim of its success’

For decades, the loudest voices in planning were saying "No." We started YIMBY Melbourne to say "Yes."

The Guardian credits that shift with driving a "planning policy revolution." Proof that when you show up with evidence & optimism, you can change policy!

The United States is a rogue actor throwing the world into disarray. It hosts war criminal Netanyahu, sanctions ICC and European officials, launches strikes around the world, and now kidnaps foreign leaders.

Western allies need to stop it if they truly believe in human rights and international law.

Areas that were downzoned saw increases in their white population shares (or slower loss of white population) and concentrated wealth compared to non-downzoned areas.
