ME: Lord, I just pray that you send a hedge of protection.

GOD: Say less.

Hey #Houston! I’m finally doing a book event in your city, 6pm Monday January 12 at Palmer Episcopal Church! Hope to see y’all beloved babes of God there 🌸 #exvangelical #deconstructing #loveyourneighborchristian #goddidntmakeustohateus

Turns out my sincerely held religious belief is that LGBTQIA+ couples deserve sacramental access AND legal protection, so I will continue to officiate LGBTQIA+ weddings in Texas!

Also, this ✨feminist ✨ working mom who adores her husband and kids is really hoping Taylor gets her Wi$h li$t for all the reasons… including that I need a life of a postpartum momgirl album #tloas #swiftie

To say that taking joy in family life, raising kids, and loving your partner is inherently “trad wife coded” is exactly what they want you to think. It means the only “legitimate” way to be a family is to adhere to patriarchy and white supremacy.

America: demands all women *desire and easily become* mothers **WHILE ALSO**
offering absolutely no structural support FOR mothers.

It’s an engine of patriarchy that creates a false dichotomy between childfree people & parents that profits on us being divided, instead of being the village.

A correction: I realize saying “Father in Heaven” is confusing …. Even though I lean towards universal salvation, I’m not trying to claim one way or another where Dobson is. I meant “Heavenly Father” as a name for God & play on parenthood. Clarifying now. Thanks!

When James Dobson meets our Father in Heaven, he won’t be spanked the way he taught generations of parents to hurt their kids.

But I deeply believe Dobson will be very, very surprised at how very, very wrong he was to do such harm in God’s name.

No better feeling than walking into a library
WITH my kids
and asking the delightful librarian if they have my book in their collection
… only to find out it’s currently checked out

It is 8am on Saturday.

In motherhood terms, I’ve already lived 6 of my 9 lives for today.

(This is obviously also true in same gender couples, and with non-birthing parents!)

In a country where maternity leave is seen as a luxury, don’t even get me started on how paternity leave is also a women’s health issue.

It is a lie that women have to do all the childcare AND work for less pay AND have no inconvenient needs.

Also yt Christian nationalism: “how dare women need time off to heal, care for baby, endure emotional & physical changes that make you ‘unattractive,’ & then have children that are seen & heard in public!”

White Christian patriarchal nationalism: “the only way women can fulfill divine purpose is to have babies!”

One of the biggest traps laid in America is the expectation all women *should* be mothers, without any institutional or structural support *for* mothers.

Grief has the power to do one of two things in your life:

One choice is to become more self-protective.

The other, more difficult, choice is to let this pain break your heart such that your heart is more open to the grief of the world.

But I believe in a God who listens to our prayers. And if you feel helpless I beg you to pray for the grieving and the dead. It’s not useless or dumb or trite. It’s lifting your soul up to its natural bent towards crying out with all whose souls are breaking.

Do not let that be taken from you.

I’m obviously critical of the empire power misuse and abuse of “thoughts & prayers.”

Loving and being loved by Christ sets us free from the endless loop of a charming and entrapping violence that corrodes every thought, peace, and dream.

To be free in Christ is to believe there is MORE than the utterly reasonable choice to choose fear in a world full of endless, seductive violence.

🩷 praying for you. I was told “not yet” in my ordination process and it felt like the end of the world. But it was the greatest pivot that lead to where I am now. Praying there is something unseen that magnificently will unfold.

As is true every year, I ask your prayers for my congregation’s safety this morning for our Pride Eucharist. 🌈🩷

The reason I need the Church is this: I need to practice resurrection hope in a garden with friends and strangers who are full of fear and trembling ... but looking for the empty tomb, anyway.

The reason I need the Church is this: I need to practice staring death in the eyes without fear -- and I can't do this without being in a community of people doing the same thing, imperfectly, hand in hand.

God is bigger than any question we can ask.

God delights in inviting us in to deeper mystery.

White supremacy, however, depends on compliance without wonder, clarity without delight, and binaries without beauty.

Part of why white Christian nationalism doesn’t want you asking too many questions is because you CAN break open white supremacy, and nationalism, and compliance by asking questions.

But you CANNOT break God by asking too many questions.

I know the Gospel's call to liberation, love, & joy and justice for all is still good news someone needs to hear.

I have so much faith in God, and I have so much faith in my incredible, nimble, curious, big-hearted, bigger-dreaming colleagues.

Being Christian has never once been about being aligned with mainstream power, but I am so heartened to see more conversations like this RNS piece because
