It is 8am on Saturday.

In motherhood terms, I’ve already lived 6 of my 9 lives for today.

(This is obviously also true in same gender couples, and with non-birthing parents!)

In a country where maternity leave is seen as a luxury, don’t even get me started on how paternity leave is also a women’s health issue.

It is a lie that women have to do all the childcare AND work for less pay AND have no inconvenient needs.

Also yt Christian nationalism: “how dare women need time off to heal, care for baby,endure emotional & physical changes that make you ‘unattractive,’ & then have children that are seen & heard in public!”

White Christian patriarchal nationalism: “the only way women can fulfill divine purpose is to have babies!”

But I believe in a God who listens to our prayers. And if you feel helpless I beg you to pray for the grieving and the dead. It’s not useless or dumb or trite. It’s lifting your soul up to its natural bent towards crying out with all whose souls are breaking.

Loving and being loved by Christ sets us free from the endless loop of a charming and entrapping violence that corrodes every thought, peace, and dream.

To be free in Christ is to believe there is MORE than the utterly reasonable choice to choose fear in a world full of endless, seductive violence.

🩷 praying for you. I was told “not yet” in my ordination process and it felt like the end of the world. But it was the greatest pivot that lead to where I am now. Praying there is something unseen that magnificently will unfold.

As is true every year, I ask your prayers for my congregation’s safety this morning for our Pride Eucharist. 🌈🩷

God is bigger than any question we can ask.

God delights in inviting us in to deeper mystery.

White supremacy, however, depends on compliance without wonder, clarity without delight, and binaries without beauty.

Part of why white Christian nationalism doesn’t want you asking too many questions is because you CAN break open white supremacy, and nationalism, and compliance by asking questions.

But you CANNOT break God by asking too many questions.

I know the Gospel's call to liberation, love, & joy and justice for all is still good news someone needs to hear.

I have so much faith in God, and I have so much faith in my incredible, nimble, curious, big-hearted, bigger-dreaming colleagues.

Being Christian has never once been about being aligned with mainstream power, but I am so heartened to see more conversations like this RNS piece because
