It's my first dissertation paper (yay), and it would not have been possible without the amazing Nicolas Ruiz and @hheuer.bsky.social.
Take care and see you there. ๐

We'll take you back to early social media platforms and how people have navigated the landscape ever since.
With our novel method, the Journeys we all are digitally partaking in become tangible, capturing the nuances and complexities of the current online chaos.
Left to right on an ocean background: A hypercard drawing of a hermit crab with a shell named "Clawtter". Three differently shaped shells (top to bottom: conic, round, spiky) with labels playing on the names of Twitter-adjecent platforms (top to bottom: Crabstodon, Blueshell, C).
๐๐งฟ What was your first social media platform, and how did you end up here (of all places ๐ซ )?
Join me for the presentation of our CHI'26 Paper, โจ"Reflecting on 1,000 Social Media Journeys: Generational Patterns in Platform Transition"โจ. @cais-research.bsky.social (more infos in thread)

A pixelated bee flying over a field of yellow marigold flowers. At the bottom, a stylized caption reads "pollen," while an overlaid text box contains a block of pseudo-code resembling a programming snippet. The code appears to simulate a bee collecting pollen, iterating through flowers in a patch while the bee has energy, and storing the gathered pollen.
Remaining creative in code and design feels like a mess currently. As artists compete for the attention of a public that fails to make sense of what they consider art, programming thrives on a safe distance to the ones it impacts the most. Draw pictures to throw away. Write code that doesn't run.
I was honored to be the artist behind this amazing team's portraits. Even though my time in Vienna was brief, I am thankful to leave a bit of myself with people who shaped my research goals. Please consider following their amazing work as I finish the last drawing!

A humanoid figure crouches on an unrolling, scroll with a map and people on it. The figure's body is a blend of stone and smoke, with a cracked, fragmented texture and wispy curls of black smoke emanating from its head. Its feet are composed of pink, brain-like structures resting on skulls.
I'm not very good at writing witty posts, so here's an illustration where I tried to make sense of something something baudrillard something something simulacra
An ugly sketch is always way more appealing and interesting than anything some crafty prompt would generate. Also plugging this goldmine: gifcities.org
