Splendid performances by the Clarion Trio at the CoMA Festival in Whitechapel, London yesterday with the composers introducing their new pieces
The programme features a dazzling variety of ensembles, and it promises to be a memorable evening. If you’re free on 29/03 and within reach of East London, it would be lovely to see you there.
@comanewmusic.bsky.social have commissioned new works from both me and my colleague Louis Palfrey, and our pieces for the Clarion Trio will open their The Finishing Line concert (coma.org/get-involved...) - the final event in CoMA’s month‑long festival of new music.
They now tour the UK, introducing audiences to the Clarion (theclarion.uk), a groundbreaking accessible musical instrument, and performing their ever‑growing repertoire.
For the past six months, I’ve been working with the Clarion Trio (clariontrio.co.uk) on a brand‑new piece. The Trio are an extraordinary group of disabled musicians who first met through the National Open Youth Orchestra.

Very sad to hear of the death of Sofia Gubaidulina. I was introduced to her music through Simon Rattle's 90s documentary 'Leaving Home'. Rattle introduced her 'Zeitgestalten', which described a vision she had of lifting a floorboard in her apartment to reveal hell. youtu.be/AkMksgl-xUc?...
