Man, when you compare the bravery of every day Minnesotans to the overpaid cops it’s astounding

Alas, I'm not a delegate, but still: we need doggy details, please. Name. Age. Endorsements, etc.
This right here! And the Strib applauds them while demonizing progressive council members---many of whom are younger, Black, Brown, LGBTQ and/or female! And wealthier White people in Ward 3, 7 and my own Ward 13 feel very comfortable with this status quo. We need to keep educating our neighbors.
Some day I want to go to an art exhibit which puts all the unflattering photos on display(maybe contrasted with the Strib's "dreamboat" photos of Frey and their other heroes) so we can all see how nuts it is.
Thanks, Stacey! I support Cedric 💯 percent!
* Under Commissioner Barnette's supervision, MPD overspent their budget by nearly $20 million dollars. Commissioner Barnette concedes this oversight was due to the lack of engaged conversations with MPD leadership, and that he was not aware of the overspend until the third financial quarter of 2025. It is unacceptable for the City's senior leadership to make the kind of mistakes that come at a direct expense for taxpayers while undercutting the delivery of services. * City workers (AFSCME Local 9 ) in the departments under Commissioner Barnette’s oversight sent a letter describing his leadership which is disqualifying. * Under the leadership of Commissioner Barnette, the City Council was asked to approve contracts with an individual who disrupted a council meeting, hurled homophobic remarks at me, and made threats. * During Commissioner Barnette's tenure, council members received several complaints from contractors for lack of communication, delay in contract execution, and clarity on the broader strategy for violence prevention, for which they were selected to play a role. * Commissioner Barnette was absent and often unengaged from the work of Commissioner. He had a hard time answering questions the Council and the public had. He often seemed, and acknowledged, that he was uninformed about the ongoing work and issues of many of the departments he oversees. As Chair of the Public Health, Safety, and Equity Committee, I have had more direct engagement with the Office of Community Safety than nearly any other member of this Council. What I witnessed over the course of Commissioner Barnette’s tenure was a pattern of disengagement that left departments without direction and residents without answers. I am calling on Mayor Frey to establish a search committee effective immediately so that the Office of Community Safety can focus on rebuilding. Sincerely, Jason Chavez
Dear neighbor,
I wanted to tell you about why I voted against reappointing Commissioner Toddrick Barnette, and why Mayor Frey’s characterization of that vote is wrong and disingenuous. 1/
David Brauer hits it out of the park. Dear Strib: Tired of Minneapolis City Hall Drama? Focus on Something Else. Yay, @dbrauer.net
Mayor Frey refusing to acknowledge any possibility of a good faith vote against Barnette.
The message is clear: Just vote for him, losers. He used to be a judge! Forget everything you learned from working with him over the last 3 years.
Laura, I am so sorry for this awful loss for you and your family. I can’t imagine how hard this is.
This is just such simplistic & unimaginative politics. He’s morphing into Ed Koch / Norm Coleman. With a Garage Logic platform of laughing at the 13 leaders of the state’s largest city, the people their neighborhoods democratically elected. The disrespect and condescension never ceases to anger me.
Veteran endorsing convention delegate here. Thank you for your service! Truly!
Marathon? I’m sure every hour in JD’s presence must feel like an eternity - but come on, he just got there.
Since 2021 there’s been a general, ambiguous campaign of scorn against the Minneapolis city council as an institution. Meanwhile the Mayors power has increased while council power has decreased. Ambiguous attacks on the council distract from the fact that THIS MAYOR BEEN IN CHARGE
FOR OVER 8 YEARS.
Indignant Mayor Frey says today has nothing to do with Barnette's job performance. Which I interpret to mean massive budget overruns are not a thing you're allowed to hold against the city's highest paid employee.
The 28th Virginia battle flag is a Confederate battle flag that belonged to the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Captured by the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg, the flag was brought to Minnesota and exhibited at the state's capitol for several years before passing into the permanent collection of the Minnesota Historical Society after 1896 where it has remained since.
Happy Confederate Surrender Day from Minnesota where we still have your goddamn flag and we’re not giving it up.

Which is yet another reason the NYT can fuck all the way off!😊
Wait a second, what's the one correct response? Mine is to tel the NYT to fuck all the way off. Which seems like a reasonable response. So which is the one we're not allowed to say?
Ilhan and Tina get it. But Amy? Alas, no.
Amy needs to run these kind of things through her polling and focus groups before deciding her positions. Her big statement on our Iraq war during George W’s presidency was that she “supported our troops.” Such a profile in courage, Amy K. 🤮
Jeff Bezos has $222 billion.
If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over.
And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.
The biggest story in the world right now is that the president of the United States is a demented old man who takes pleasure in torturing and killing people and is committing crimes with impunity. And yet most legacy media outlets are too cowardly to tell it like it is.
Ushering in the end of humanity because a bunch of “alpha” white men are too scared to stand up to a demented old man who’s caked in makeup.
Journalistic malpractice and democratic betrayal.
Pho 79 on Eat Street, Emily’s Lebanese in northeast.
Streets, plowing, trash, zoning, planning, and housing are the quintessential local government issues. They drive a lot of interest and controversy. These are not sleepy little positions. If the mayor's appointees can't handle a public hearing and confirmation vote, they can't handle the job.
I'm no fan of the Minneapolis police or its chief. But are these complaints mostly coming from the police federation? If so, does that mean the MPD cop union is longing for a new chief who'd allow even more thumping, violence & over-time grifting?
neato that the law and order types somehow never do face consequences like the rest of us plebes
💯agree with you. And I’m 💯supporting Cedric Frazier.
There's a lot there, but man, the board of directors--mainly a bunch of white guys who seem totally clueless; with little board turnover and very little accountability--these are apparently the people steering the company. RIP Target. Not shopping there any more.
