That's insane to me. I get that suburbs and smaller towns have all the essential shopping and services, so they don't need to go into the city to shop anymore. But like... special events? Museum exhibits? Just a change of scenery? They don't want any of that?

10km is a reasonable distance to have to drive. It's the people who are able to walk like 1km and still choose to drive that I don't understand. Or who avoid going anywhere that doesn't have a parking lot instead of just using transit.

I feel like I've been noticing more and more just how big the difference is between city dwellers and suburbanites, and between people who rely on their cars for transportation and people who don't.
