New podcast ep. A hard one: I spoke with someone I disagree with strongly on the war. But I feel voices like hers are essential.
Roya Rasteger has worked hard to uplift Iranian voices on the ground. But since many of those voices are hard to hear, they often get ignored. I hope people will listen.

That said I can’t help but feel kind of disgusted that the media and wider urgency goes down when white people are no longer being victimized as openly.
Brown people dying in concentration camps just doesn’t do the trick, I guess.
I consistently repeat to folks that they do not in fact ever *succeed* on their own. Sometimes the assistance is visible, often it is submerged. None of the USian billionaires *succeeded* on their own. In fact, most of them continue to benefit from your money, labor, etc....
All that said, I’m at s1e14 and the treatment of the story around the guy who wrote a kill list is driving me crazy. Otherwise love it lol
It’s a big reason it’s so important not to completely ignore the power of social media, podcasts, newsletters, YouTube, etc. It’s through this that our voices and work can subvert that reality.
Started watching the Pitt recently. So amazing.
But it also was striking to see like, only one popular show that seems to actually address things like COVID, mass shootings, houselessness, opioid epidemic etc.
Our media really does for the most part play on escapism and erasure.
Woman Who Took 15 Tequila Shots on Carnival Cruise Gets $300,000 in Damages The woman, who fell and injured herself, said in a lawsuit that bartenders had been negligent for serving her while she was visibly intoxicated.
College me would have really benefited by knowing this was an option
This is a really great dive into the smear jobs against Hasan Piker, in particular I must thank the author for this clarification around Piker's comments about rape on October 7th, imo the most egregious and prolific deliberate distortions of Piker's commentary--which I was a witness to, live. Here:
He's just upset he can't keep pretending he is some sort of insightful progressive and is being named for what he actually is by those who most embrace his worldview
Imagine telling the Pope to shut up and dribble
IMO the two biggest dangers of AI are that it affirms everything you think and that it destroys your critical thinking.
And each reinforces the other. The more you lean on it for your thinking, the more it reinforces it. And the more it reinforces it, the more you rely on it.
Very bad.
I mention that in the piece! lol
I really don’t understand how people who use ChatGPT for their writing aren’t aware how many people can tell.
The fact that people think that their dislike of Piker, however justified, then means they shouldn't care about this deliberate misinformation and reliance on bigoted sources, betrays a deep bias.
It is this lack of concern that generally leads to the further spread of disinformation.
Shame on the folks online who called it “cancel culture” for these women to come forward.
Thank you!
Feel free to read the article, where I cite examples of him saying things I consider to be antisemitic. I’m not going to erase responsibility for things he’s said just because he is being slandered otherwise.
lmao
"Calling out people for spreading disinformation is the same as defending them."
No, and this is the exact logic I will keep pointing out is a validator for how misinformation spreads.
There are like 5 other pieces of evidence I give, and I also call out their source. Read stuff before you comment.
Thank you!
It's the same thinking a MAGA follower uses to validate conspiracy theories, or people may use to *ignore* actual antisemitism.
When the logic is allowed to pervade, then anyone can get away with anything, and truth no longer matters.

And it is not just that. Even if that wasn't the case, the claim that "pig dog" is an antisemitic slur is simply untrue. He cites a source that applies it two specific usages, not the phrase itself.
And he used the phrase a few times in the past towards non-Jews.
Still, they cite it.
Post See new posts Conversation OldManLondre @OldManLondre Is mental retardation more common among Muslims? Seems so. QT of: Thomas @TommyInPA · May 27, 2024 The 'Abandon Biden' movement rises in response to Gaza crisis, Muslims support Trump Rashida Tlaib and these assses can go to hell. "A recent NY Times poll found that Trump led Biden with 57% support among Arab and Muslim voters in battleground states."
And this lack of fact checking and accountability leads to things like them citing a man who said this.
It is this person's clip of Piker that is used to accuse him when he called a viewer a "pig dog."
His clip is cited by Third Way in their op-ed, Ritchie Torres, and many others.
As I say, you don't have to agree with me on the definition of antisemitism to see how grossly distorted these accusations are.
The immense scrutiny on Piker with little to no scrutiny on those accusing him is itself a scandal. They are essentially working with impunity.
I spent two weeks looking into accusations that Hasan Piker is antisemitic. What I found was damning: prominent organizations and leaders have spread total falsehoods about him.
Whether he's antisemitic is for you to decide. But everyone should care when the ADL & politicians spread disinformation.
Fascists are fragile. They depend on hierarchy in a world where hierarchy makes you vulnerable.
Important to remember that a win yesterday is not a loss for all time.
Marc Andreessen 🇺🇸 @pmarca It's incredible the extent to which the social sanctioning engine has simply seized up. Hit pieces that would have been 5-alarm fires 5 years ago now come and go with no notice. Nobody cares, it's over.
Brown people are being put in concentration camps.
Activists are getting charged for acting on their first amendment rights.
The FBI has named any form of left wing ideology terrorism.
But abusers now face fewer sanctions than a brief moment it seemed they might. For Andreessen, this is freedom.
