But why are they in space? There's no reason for them to be in space!

Like, I think this is his first major life crisis where delay was not to his benefit. When he owed people money, had scandals, or got pulled into court, delay always favored him.

Even with COVID, which was unpersuadable—pandemics always end eventually, even before hardworking vax scientists

Why would he do something so controversial yet so brave?

That’s the approval level where Bush chose to skip the 2008 convention because he knew he was a drag on the party.

Will Trump make similar choices? I believe the kids have a saying that goes “lol”

I was mostly being silly there. 🙃 Anyone who’s on a medicine and it’s working for them, that’s great! And if the medicine isn’t working as well as they hope, they should try another one.

But if someone were about to *start* a medicine and asked for my suggestion, I’m #TeamZep.

I’ve really enjoyed 4/20, the Bluesky holiday where everyone reveals their deranged relationship with airports

And they also have a corporate interest in looking and acting like good guys. Time was when I would’ve thought Amazon would do the same thing, but their priorities have changed in recent years.

My prediction: Costco will actually give a refund to its customers. (Every purchase is associated with a membership number, they can do it). A few other merchants will make a gesture in that direction, like reward points to customers with established accounts. Other than that, customers are OOL.

can’t think of a better name for the company than “the guy in Tolkien who was so obsessed with his own bullshit that he didn’t notice a breakin and ended up losing everything”

Legally, the war itself is illegal under *United States* law (Congress hasn't declared war, no imminence); under international law it's arguable ('arguable under international law' really means 'legal in practice') given the actions of Iran's proxies.

But within the war, the blockade is legal.

Bluesky is not big on the “jus ad bellum/jus in bello” distinction, and will in fact get very angry if you acknowledge that the distinction exists. I saw it the other way around with the Gaza war.

I was in college a decade before Google was founded* and I can personally attest to the presence of big-ass card catalogs with genuine paper cards

95% of the time it’s just cope when people say “go ahead and sue, discovery is going to be great” but in this case discovery is, in fact, going to be a blast

Not disputing that! But that’s one case of the general rule that politicians will look for any excuse to say “voters can have free ice cream”. Some took supply side economics as the excuse. For others, it’s Keynesian stimulus. A few had a go at using MMT.

If I make a post saying “driving drunk has a net negative effect on life expectancy”, I don’t feel the need to add disclaimers like “… unless you are driving drunk away from a tornado or Godzilla”

My iPhone thought this graphic would add a lot to the post. It’s a dark gray square with a blue left edge. Sometimes the square is white instead of dark gray.

Why does my iPhone keep trying to add pictures of big blue-edged squares to my posts

I wonder if it’s because his breakout part was playing Jesus for Mel Gibson? That cemented him in popular memory as “sort of Mediterranean or something“.

To give a more serious response, it sounds like you’re describing what I called the strong version of “supply site economics”. Nobody seriously disputes that cutting marginal tax rates has a stimulative effect. Lots of people dispute that the effect is great enough for revenue to be net positive.
