Ironically you’d want to have Facebook on your phone. There are many local Facebook groups that will let you know who’s open for roommates/has a room/is giving away free items/items for cheap. You would need to be careful for this too. Have a friend or a online friend track your location.

People will unfortunately trust you more if you have a photograph of yourself on your profile. I like Roomies because you can verify background checks but less people use it for that reason. Spareroom and Facebook Marketplace has more options. Be very clear with what you want out of a roommate.
