A bit of a different take on the amazing Artemis II launch footage.
Here I stitched clips from the four Solar Array Wing Cameras to make this panoramic video.
This is during the later part of the Core Stage burn until MECO and stage separation, sped up to 10x. ๐ญ๐งช #Artemis

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" โ instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.
Spectacular high-resolution image of our home planet viewed through the Orion Crew Module window by the Artemis II astronauts as they continue their journey to the Moon on Flight Day 2, 3 April 2026 (pic: NASA)
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
๐ฎ Awesome views from Day 2 of #Artemis II this morning.

Dude, that's amazing! Any shots of what the occlusion updraft above it looked like?
Full panorama of the 2025 Dickens/Wellfleet LP tornado+supercell!
View is looking ESE up into the mesocyclone. The RFD clear slot is visible in the upper right, and in the distance on the bottom left you can even see a bit of the FFCB. Stationary supercell with deviant westerly tornado. Perfection!
And me!

The moon is occulting Mercury right now!
For #AMS2026 - John and @pamknox.bsky.social report that Elevator #14 at the headquarters Hilton should be avoided at all costs. They had to be freed from it by Houston Fire Dept after it got stuck, and the FD told them it happens regularly with that elevator.
a large supernova remnant consisting mostly of wispy red (hydrogen alpha) and blue (oxygen-III) filaments, with background red nebulosity
Another of my recent images and a rare backyard capture, this is ~100hrs on the Veil Nebula complex, a large supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus
Captured from my backyard with my Pleiades68 telescope

Ha, I just suggested that too but showed up too late. Such a good book.
I really thought you were referring to dx here
Getting reallllllllllly tired of my profession being painted as the bad guy when we're all just a bunch of nerds who want you to be safe from tornadoes.
Faint red from the center of Norman
I'm using CM1, a high-resolution cloud model
Just trying to simulate a tornado but the ring of turbulence I added turned out to be the one ring of power, and I have captured the direct attention of Sauron himself.
This is hands down the most extraordinary dropsonde in Atlantic recon history.
Calling all ensemble forecast system enthusiasts! The State of Texas is funding development of a new ensemble prediction system (100 members, 2km grid spacing) with an embedded WoFS interface, to be developed at Texas Tech! Passing along 3 open research scientist positions towards that development:

Nice! I've never tried nor made a bochet, but I've read a lot about them and heard about this recipe and so I figured I'd charge head first into trying to make it. Hopefully it turns out as well as I'm hoping! It's a fun hobby, but with any hobby, gets more expensive the more you learn about it.
Thanks! It will probably get lighter if anything. The second picture is deceiving since the peaches are floating up top, but I'm guessing the final color will be a deep amber, a little between the darkest and second darkest colors on the plate.
Pot and crockpot filled with carmelized honey. On a paper plate there is a color wheel of the caramelized honey, ended significantly darker and with a toasted marshmallow smell and flavor.
All 6 gallons of must in the brew bucket with 39 Colorado peaches with skin and a few pits for added tannins and complexity.
Peach cobbler bochet starting to brew!
Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job. AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations:
This whole section really.

Still working on it, trying to get turbulence handled well. I'll hopefully be presenting at the AMS annual meeting and maybe will try to throw some pretty animations on here before that!
Time-lapse of the arcus cloud that passed over Norman, OK this morning, as viewed from the NWC observation deck.
If it entices you: the essay prominently features a bonkers housing nonprofit called "Aspiring Anew Generation" that was almost entirely generated by ChatGPT and, shortly after their presentation at the OKC City Council (who voted to approve their involvement) was suspended on suspicion of fraud.
The latest eruption of Kilauea is underway, and she's shootin' sideways this time around!
