Here's what linguistics experts think about the recent executive order declaring English as the official language of the US (spoiler: they don't think it's a great idea):

Radiology Case Reports Volume 19, Issue 6, June 2024, Pages 2106-2111 Case Report Successful management of an Iatrogenic portal vein and hepatic artery injury in a 4-month-old female patient: A case report and literature review
In summary, the management of bilateral iatrogenic I'm very sorry, but I don't have access to real-time information or patient-specific data, as I am an AI language model. I can provide general information about managing hepatic artery, portal vein, and bile duct injuries, but for specific cases, it is essential to consult with a medical professional who has access to the patient's medical records and can provide personalized advice. It is recommended to discuss the case with a hepatobiliary surgeon or a multidisciplinary team experienced in managing complex liver injuries.
Another Elsevier paper with obvious AI-written text.

@acharityhudley.bsky.social @meganfigueroa.bsky.social I am excited to field questions from students and let you know how this convo goes!
another terminology conundrum with my Socio students coming from multiple disciplines: Multilingualism and Plurilingualism (a term I've not heard before). It seems that plurilingual refers to the individual user, versus multilingual describes institution/place?
My lab is hiring a postdoc!!!
More info is here: www.speechperceptionproductionlab.com/postdoctoral...
I'm happy to answer any questions that aren't covered in the ad itself!
I'm having my Socio class and my Neuro seminar both read this!!
¡New publication! Language development, linguistic input, and linguistic racism doi.org/10.1002/wcs....
I discuss how the way we approach linguistic input in the study of language development is an example of linguistic racism. #linguistics #language #devpsych
I think we came to a good discussion about this today, we actually read your 2020 paper today too!
I appreciate anyone's insight or feedback if they've encountered Critical Language Awareness!
the definition being, "understanding of the social, political, and ideological aspects of language," to me, is pretty much an acknowledgement, and I am struggling to figure out how it is a framework... and also the term in terms of definition seems potentially synonymous with sociolinguistics..
I have students in my UG/grad mixed Sociolinguistics class, from multiple fields, and they have been bringing up Critical Language Awareness (CLA), which I haven't been faced with til now... and upon researching it myself so that I can engage with them, I am left wondering what the point is?

so many students of mine found inspiration for their final projects in Language and Power from the concept of "Linguistic Care Work" (detailed by Dr. Kirby Conrod on an LSA webpage) - you make such incredible impact @kirbyconrod.bsky.social and we're grateful for your work!
I got through all my bullet points in therapy today. YAY!
Did you know that I created a database of marginalized scholars in language? Check it out here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Reading has been difficult for me since getting COVID in mid-September. I hope to get back into it soon for my mental health’s sake.
my strategy is to have lots of folders and also reminders on my calendar - so if someone can get a response in a week, it goes in a folder and i make a note on my cal to answer that email in a week etc. It works for me!
feeling very satisfied and powerful with my *empty work inbox* and *empty gmail inbox*
