What kills me about all of these creative roles being axed is that these companies don't want us to have the best. They want to get away with giving us "barely good enough".

I think we deserve unbridled human vision and creativity. We deserve the best. And that comes from people, not a server stack

A digital comic page rendered in a lighthearted semi-realistic cartoony style.

Panel 1: A chubby balding Asian man with glasses (Hien) sits in a small clinic office opposite a nurse with short wavy blonde-ish brown hair (Peter), scruffy facial hair, and blue eyes.

Hien: I'm ready for my STI screening! I feel fine, but it'd be nice to have peace of mind!
Peter: You're doing the right thing!

Panel 2: close-up on Peter's face as he smiles and nods.

Peter: You know, the majority of infections we detect at M Clinic are in asymptomatic folks. That's why regular testing is key!
Hien: Right!

Panel 3: Side shot of both of them conversing. Peter puts one hand to his chin while Hien does an affirmative fist pump!

Peter: Usually, we'd chat about your sexual history and determine what tests would be right for you... But, if you're after a thorough screening, may I recommend the whole suit of tests?
Hien: I'm down!

Panel 4: long shot of the outside of the M Clinic building. It's a small and unassuming with certain walls painted in the M Clinic signature deep sky blue. A man is seen stepping out of the building while whistling. The title of the comic "Let's Get Tested!" splashes across the panel. "Read the full comic on OhJoySexToy.com" caption lays below it. A small speech bubble with a little Hien head pops out of the corner: "Made in collaboration with WAAC and M Clinic!"

I keep seeing people say, "Natives didn't own the land, they were just caretakers." That's not some deep insight. That's just a misunderstanding dressed up as a fact. You're using a colonial definition of ownership and acting like it's the only one that exists. Let me put it in simple terms. You say *my mom, my dad, my kids, my family.* You don't "own" them like property, but they are yours in the sense that there's connection, responsibility, and belonging. That word "my" doesn't mean control. It means relationship. That's how our people understood land. When we say it's our land, we're not talking about owning it like a piece of real estate you can buy, sell, or destroy. We're talking about being tied to it, through history, through culture, through survival. We belong to it, and it belongs to us. That's not a weaker form of ownership. If anything, it's deeper. So no, we didn't lack ownership. We rejected the idea that land is just a commodity. And let's be honest: just because your ancestors needed paper and fences to feel like something was theirs doesn't mean we didn't already have something stronger long before that.

Quote from Everythung Everywhere All at once

When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I learned to survive through everything. I know you see yourself as a fighter. Well, I see myself as one too. This is how I fight - Everything Everywhere All At Once

I'm sorry. As a technology writer, I'm supposed to be telling you that this bet will some day pay off, because one day we will have shoveled so many words into the word-guessing program that it wakes up and learns how to actually do the jobs it is failing spectacularly at today. This is a proposition akin to the idea that if we keep breeding horses to run faster and faster, one of them will give birth to a locomotive. Humans possess intelligence, and machines do not. The difference between a human and a word-guessing program isn't how many words the human knows.

I'm sorry. I know that when we talk about "digital sovereignty," we're obliged to talk about how we can build more data-centres that we can fill up with money-losing chips from American silicon monopolists in the hopes of destroying as many jobs as possible while blowing through our clean energy goals and enshittifying as much of our potable water as possible.

"Florence Craye ran her Powered by the Apocalypse homebrew the other night, Jeeves. Have you played PbtA, Jeeves?"

"I have not yet had the pleasure, sir."

"Nor have I, Jeeves. Not a twenty-sider to be had. One would think dice technology hadn't advanced since the days of Parker Brothers." I took a harrowed sip of my energy drink. "I tried to roll initiative and was called an 'incurable gamist.'"

"Most distressing, sir."

"Give Bertram Wooster dungeons, Jeeves. Give him dragons. Give him dice by the handful. I'm a simple man, Jeeves."

"Yes, sir."

I've had a promotional VHS for the test animation that became Batman: The Animated Series for a long time, I bought it on eBay in like...1999? The version they put as a bonus on the DVD said they lost the audio but uh, here it is. You're welcome Bruce Timm.

A logo for MEANJIN IN 28 on a black background. The letter M contains an image of an Indigenous adventurer with a snake and a wooden walking stick, viewing a futuristic city with flying transport vehicles. The letters EAN contain an image of an Indigenous woman with long, curly hair, viewing the planets, stars, and constellations. The letters JIN contain an image of an Indigenous Elder in a canvas jacket wearing an Outback hat accompanied by three stylistic dingoes in a lush green Australian bush / forest. The snake's multi-coloured body weaves through the images from the M to the last N.

If you are anxious and sad about the state of the world, that's fine, and there are plenty of strategies for dealing with that. But I think you already know that drive-by online dooming isn't a strategy. It's selfish and adolescent. It's a contagion that only spreads the worst of you, not the best.

How to get better at improvising - Old Men Running The World You will get better at improvising.

Sometimes people ask me how to get better at improvising in TTRPGs and I shrug helplessly, saying "...uhhhhh.... Ummmm," and things like that.

To improve this response I rolled on a spark table and followed the prompt "write a blog post about it".
