They Might Be Giants World Tour 2040 poster showing two elderly, skeletal musicians - one in a wheelchair with an IV bag holding a blue guitar, the other with an accordion
Seems like they might actually make it
Seems like Trump is taking the lead on it this time.
When I wrote Section 230 I did so knowing it would be critical for protecting free speech online. 30 years later and it’s one of the last things standing in the way of Republican censorship of the internet. Here’s to many more years of defending this vital safeguard of free speech.
Also, although any actual causal story would be pretty underpants-gnome-y, I think deep league involvement with gambling really does exacerbate feelings of "Hey, maybe that call wasn't on the level."
idk. I guess I'm just old and cranky. But I remember when the most you got was Al Michaels muttering about how an otherwise meaningless safety "will matter to some people." And now it's non stop ads + picks by hosts pregame. And the signup bonuses etc.
There has been an explosion in gambling addiction. And addiction is the most serious problem. But I suspect 90% of the backlash to sports betting is due to how it now dominates advertising and sports entertainment marketing. It's just so effing annoying.
Screenshot of a TikTok video with error message at top saying “your video is under review and can’t be shared right now.”
This morning, I recorded a video on TikTok about why DHS’s arguments for the power to enter homes without judicial warrants in immigration cases are bunk.
Nine hours later, TikTok still says my video is “under review,” and can’t be shared.
Well, here’s a link:

I'm looking for witnesses/victims of DHS retaliating against people who were recording their agents (ICE, Border Patrol, FPS, etc.) in Southern California.
This is for LA Press Club v. Noem case, but victim does NOT need to be press/journalist. Everyone has right to record. We're fighting for all.
I did the same thing with a gen8 x1 carbon recently. I am very impressed with the state of desktop linux vs when I last tried it. But if I had bought the x1 new vs a MB Air spec'd to the same price I'd have felt like a sucker. The screen, trackpad, battery, noise, cpu on these don't feel close.
GoldenEye
When I was excited about the re-release my friends all said, "It won't hold up to your memories." But, it did.
Reminder that the thing you’re fundamentally buying when you subscribe to The Verge is our ethics policy: we don’t do brand deals and pretend they’re reviews and we insist companies (and the White House) be on the record if they want quotes in our stories. Worth it! www.theverge.com/ethics-state...
It seems like every time I’m about to teach unraveling in information revelation games… the universe provides timely new examples.
Henry Kim and I wrote about this phenomena all the way back in 2013 for House races. faculty.ucmerced.edu/bleveck/asse...
My take away is a bit different though: If a party's brand increasingly dominates voters' view of incumbents, then the party should probably try to rebrand as more moderate.
This is an important time to remember that responsibility is not a zero-sum game — recognizing one person’s fault does not necessarily diminish another person’s.
The Trump administration is fascist. And ABC cynically caved and abandoned American values for money. Both are worthy of your contempt.
Screenshot of dialog with Claude, reading Problem 1: Incorrect bit offset calculation You're incrementing offset by 2 bits, but then using offset % 32 directly as the bit position within a word. This doesn't work correctly because: - After 16 pushes, offset becomes 32, so word_offset = 32 % 32 = 0 - But you should be at word_index = 1, word_offset = 0 - Instead, your code gives word_index = 32 / 32 = 1, word_offset = 0 ✓ Wait, actually that part works correctly! Let me reconsider...
very relatable, honestly
Group of protesters with American flags.
Just miles and miles of normies patriotically protesting Trump. Beautiful.
Protestors lined up along El Camino Boulevard in Mountain View
The No Kings protest in Mountain View was pretty laid back. Half of us lined up along a 7 mile stretch of El Camino and the other half strapped American flags to their cars and honked non-stop. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
Bump.
Just show up for a few hours, please. You don’t need to bring a sign, you don’t need to talk to anyone if you don’t want to. Please just find a way to be physically present for one of these.
The "For a Few Dollars More" tariff
Sure whatever. 25% tariff on eating ice cream on a hot day next. 50% tariff on petting a dog. 35% tariff on the sound of children laughing. 10% tariff on the smell of flowers. 15% tariff on the cold side of the pillow. And another 25% on China, why not.
Yeah. I just can't figure out what amount of economic relief that implies given:
1) Seems unlikely the liberation day rates are actually coming back at the end of 90 days
2) China deal/unilateral step back seems to be on a different track, than allies' deals
Maybe market disagrees/I'm wrong on 1.
What 2nd order inferences do you the markets would make from a deal with Japan?

The people who lived through the Great Depression were financially scarred for the rest of their lives -- I don't think Millennials are like that when it comes to consumption patterns but it does help explain why we generally support politicians who try to avoid left tail economic outcomes.
Only on Twitter can you have a 38 year old professional youtuber tell you to be a real man and get job in a steel mill
There are still cars and goods to buy at pre-tariff prices. Companies are operating based on capital raised before yesterday. Restaurants will be busy this weekend. But the hit is coming.
