Our Afghan allies risked their lives side-by-side with American servicemembers. Now we repay them by giving them a choice between returning to Afghanistan, where their lives may be in imminent danger from the Taliban, or going to the Congo, where experts say there is an ongoing human rights crisis.

Presidents celebrate life of US lawmaker Robert Byrd Presidents Obama and Clinton attend a memorial service for Democratic Senator Robert Byrd, the longest-serving member of Congress.

"[he] possessed that quintessential American quality. That is a capacity to change, a capacity to learn. A capacity to listen, to be made more perfect."

— Barack Obama

When people attack Platner with comments from 13+ years ago and say 'people don’t change,' I think of Sen. Byrd.

A former KKK member who filibustered the Civil Rights Act, he renounced his past, became a staunch supporter of civil rights in the Senate, and was honored by Obama after his death.

I disagree. There are plenty of examples that show anybody can change, for the better or worse. Take Senator Robert Byrd, from KKK member to champion of civil rights, eulogized by President Obama himself.

I look forward to Platner proving as much in the U.S. Senate.

Washington is pretending to look busy with phony investigations—but don't let them distract you from the cover-up.

The Epstein files remain hidden, and Pam Bondi still hasn’t appeared for questioning.

No hearings. No deposition date. No answers.

I'll agree on this, though:

I wouldn't have voted for a 24-year-old Graham Platner, while he was still in the middle of combat deployments, before he moved home, went to therapy, found community, fell in love and became a champion for progressive causes.

Take care, HR.

It is a company that was sold, rebranded, run for years, then acquired again and consolidated. I'm sorry that the facts don't fit your "he worked for Blackwater!" narrative.

I know, "he worked for a contractor!" doesn't hit the same. But I wouldn't argue with that, as that statement is true.

You're too funny.

Graham has stated clearly that he wouldn't fund genocide in the Middle East or war with Iran. Neither of his opponents—whether Mills or Collins—are willing to back those positions.

But do tell me more about how we love war! 😘

Exactly. The Ellsworth American articles. Those ranged from 2005 to 2008. Graham himself has stated he was in a horrible place back then, in the midst of four combat deployments.

Do you have anything from, say, the past 18 years?

Sundance? And no, it's not.

By your reasoning, if you form a startup that does horrific things, somebody buys it, rebrands it, and runs it for three years, then Google acquires it, a person hired by Google anytime after worked for—and is responsible for—the actions of your startup.

Do you have a source for this claim?

You can screenshot ChatGPT or Google searches all you want. It doesn't change the reality of the situation.

He did not commit atrocities. He drove an ambassador around. But hey, I get it, it's easier to attack a straw man.

Ahhh, yes. Trump, famously known to worry about the well-being of women, Iranians, and protesters.

Same. As I've said in the past, I don't regret voting for her; but that's only because of how horrific her opponents were.

Every time she does something sensible—which she does occasionally do—she turns around and does something indefensible, and offers the weakest of defenses.

Agreed on the main point but the subhead has it sort of backwards:

Billionaires are throwing big $$$ behind Susan Collins because she's happy to throw Mainers and voting rights under the bus.

But it's not like they bribed her to change positions. This is who she is and has been. #MEpolitics

Listen, I don't love contractors. I'm simply calling out the lie that he worked for Blackwater—and it is a lie. It wasn't just a rebrand. It was entirely bought out in '10/'11, then that company was again acquired and folded into a larger company in '14.

It was not Blackwater rebranded.

4 hours ago 0 0 1 0

If you don't like contractors, I get it. Falsely connecting him directly to one of the worst contractors of all time when he didn't work for them or have anything to do with their infamous acts is disingenuous.

He worked for a large company that acquired a company that previously bought Blackwater.

Wrong.

Blackwater rebranded to Academi after ownership changes in '10/'11. Academi was folded into Constellis in '14, via merger with Triple Canopy, alongside other acquisitions.

Constellis isn't Blackwater renamed.
Nor is it a direct continuation of it.

And frankly, this proves that you know you're lying. You could have said, "he was a contractor for Constellis." You didn't. You tried to tie him directly to Blackwater, which is never worked for, to try and associate him with Prince/atrocities that he had absolutely nothing to do with.

5 hours ago 1 0 1 0

Saying Constellis is Blackwater is false. Blackwater was sold and rebranded multiple times. Under new ownership, it became one part of Constellis, which was built by combining numerous different security firms to form one of the largest contractors.
