As an example, I actually took a break while writing FADE, because I had literally *just* written a bit where I talk about future variants of SARS and MERS and how the city deals with them when the first murmurs of SARS-COV-2 started hitting the news in 2019.
I seriously considered cutting it.

I just want to say, it’s getting REALLY difficult to write speculative fiction in the cyberpunk genre these days, because every time I come up with something I can use as a warning and metaphor, reality steps up to the plate and tells me to hold its beer.
Truth is stranger than fiction, indeed.
I’m pretty sure that manga would heal MY heart at least a little.
You go, Bear-Kun. Clean that house.
Just gonna put this here again apropo nothing.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.
I want to say this with the calm of a Monday morning but…
It seems insanely, appallingly easy for Trump and his family and minions to just outright STEAL ridiculously large sums of money.

one of my favorite underrated Tim Curry roles is when he read the audiobooks for Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom trilogy and therefore is playing a terrifying demonic entity trapped in the form of a little white cat. If you’ve read the books, you HAVE to hear him as Mogget. It is so unbelievably good.
Bus typo: Help us score the gift of life, DONATE BLOOB
BLOOB FOR THE BLOOB GOD!
And given how big 90’s nostalgia is right now, it would almost guarantee an audience.

Oh, man.
A revisit of XGB would be great.
Maybe even give them a crossover with Afterlife. That would work so well.
I will literally *give* folks digital review copies of my books, for free, if they promise to review it.
Like it, love it, loathe it.
Just read it and review it fairly.

They were a really creative person who had a lot of great talents, and I think outside the game scenario they were pretty cool.
Inside it, it just didn’t mesh.
I still wonder what it could have been like if they’d decided to play WITH the group rather than AT them.
I did actually suggest that they join a writer’s workshop. The response that I got was… not polite.
I think, ultimately, they wanted to tell their own stories and bring people along for the ride, which in some scenarios is fine and good, but not all. And not like this.
It’s a shame, really.
(Obviously)
The game itself got a replacement player and lasted for about four years before the group split up.
I have absolutely no idea what happened to that person. I hope they got past their trauma and learned to have fun letting groups create shared stories instead of serving a single one.
And on top of THAT, the character had a blood-oath tier revenge arc against Elric of Melniboné they wanted me to work in there somehow.
“None of these things apply to this game” was met with derision and more accusations of “lack of storytelling skills.”
Ultimately, they left the game.
…
As off kilter as all of that was, the absolute weirdest thing about all of that wasn’t that the player was clearly working some past trauma out on me (and I hope they eventually got through it).
It was that the PC’s backstory was a clear copy of The Neverending Story & The Last Unicorn.

Complaint with the Judges Guild about my interpretation of the rules.
It was an in-house setting.
It was not a JG game.
I was not a member of JG.
I pointed these things out.
The player wrote letters to my employer and tried to get me fired. (My boss laughed it off.)
BUT.
I asked if they could distill it down to a couple of pages of interesting things that didn’t put the PC at the center of every major lore event in the setting.
They sent me an email calling me things I won’t repeat, insulted the entire group’s intelligence, and said they would be filing a…
The player then got absolutely livid - screamingly mad - when I said I only needed a page or two of things that were pertinent to why they were adventuring NOW, in the current day, and while this was great, it openly contradicted portions of the world’s lore (the group had that lore doc).
…
In a game many years ago, I had a player deliver me a 35 page backstory, complete with lineage and family tree, after I asked the group to bring me “a page or two of backstory so that I can maybe get some ideas for fun interactions as the game progresses.”
I was more than a bit shocked.

I’ve been saying this about the film for years, and it’s nice to see someone else with a similar take. I’ll take the validation.

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
@skindredmusic.bsky.social dropped their new album this week, and it is absolutely LADEN with positivity and killer jams.
It’s great and I highly recommend it. Good stuff as always.

“If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” is right-wing “feeding the poor and hungry for no other reason than that they’re poor and hungry will collapse society” bootstrap propaganda, and I’m tired of pretending it’s not.
It’s poor-shaming for kids and I hate it.
At some point I want to get a small greenhouse set up and just go hog wild with the citrus.
