The voice lured her into the outskirts of town, towards a lakebed that reflected the moon like glass. The whining sound that hung over Goldenleaf couldn’t reach here, replaced by the chirping of crickets and an occasional lap of water against the shore. Drawing closer, the shape of a small figure sitting beside the lake came into view. The figure’s scales were a pale manifestation of moonlight. As she sang, her body swayed in tempo. “With hearts of merry, and claws of gold They welcome you, they cherish you With hearts of merry, and claws of gold To the glorious kingdom of skies.”
