I used to advocate free transit. This video gives excellent explanations of why that's not nearly the first priority.

I made the flyer for this #author #event in #Oakland this Sunday. Took me forever because I couldn't find ANY free stock photos about #AI that were neutral or even negative. Existing graphics all position it as a helpful friend. Have you run into this issue?

Apart from everything else, the Iranian government seems to have granted its diplomatic missions around the world free rein to weigh in on the conflict with the US as cleverly as they can. I can't imagine Global Affairs Canada ever giving its embassies and consulates the latitude to go nuts.
Wrote an official launch post for the Clear Language Club blog. I'm quite excited about it. Looking forward to sending an email to 1000ish folk to tell them it's ready. 😬 💌

Trop drôle. Angine de Poitrine qui inspire les artistes graffiti du métro de Londres.
Good thread
I just used CRA's (Canada's Revenue Agency) chatbot and am stunned at how useful it actually was. I asked an initial question, then a couple of more detailed ones and the answers were almost instantaneous. Yikes, what a world.
The thing about there needing to be a path of redemption for people who have been “canceled” is: there already is a path to redemption and it’s called “redeeming yourself.” The path is open! No one is blocking that! You just have to do it!

Looks very yummy!

This is brilliant: real student reviews from attending the teaching sessions of Jesus; “Inaccessible. He told me he’d be in his office; I walked all the way there, and the door was open, and he was gone.”
Wow. What a lovely, captivating, fun piece!
13 minutes, great mix of African and Western influences. And that voice solo at the beginning…
"what are we trying to do" is a question that is worth asking basically every day lol
if everybody has the same answer, it's a quick conversation and you can move on!
if they don't, you really need to sort it out and it's best to do that immediately
Can you read English cursive? Ever wanted to volunteer from the comfort of home for a useful cause? Have I got an offer for you...
The Newberry Library in Chicago is always in need of transcribers to help decipher historical handwritten documents. If this is you, learn more about it below:

Holy shit—never seen the hardcover of *An Editorial Cartoon* discounted so deeply ($12.15 CAD, when the list price is $44)! If you shop on Amazon, this would be a good time to grab a copy: www.amazon.ca/Editorial-Ca...

Glad I could suggest a few participants for your project.
Just realized it was, indeed, around 9 years ago. How could it be??! But yes, that was before the Montréal Clarity conf., so before 2018. Gawd. Time flies, supersonically, it seems.
Congrats on reviving the project!
...to work their thoughts out and explore the implications of their ideas. GenAI assumes that the goal of writing is to produce text, rather than to clarify ideas, solve problems, articulate complex concepts, and above all to communicate from one human mind to another."
Just watched this 30-minute video. Excellent!

Treat yourself to a few minutes of peace and beauty. Breathe.
As someone who edits government documents, I related to Jamila Savoy's story so much. She talks about the key things you need to advance plain language work in that environment.

Wow. Good?
💡 Fun Fact: When Jan Is De Man paints his giant bookshelves, he doesn’t just invent random titles. He actually knocks on the doors of the people living in the building and asks for their favorite books, then paints those exact covers on the facade.
Jan Is De Man is a master of making buildings pretend to be something else. Here, a plain apartment block becomes an oversized bookshelf full of local favorites, and the entire facade suddenly feels warmer, smarter, and way more playful.
Applies to all writing. I make sure to tell my history students this as we work through essays. You wouldn't believe how much relief they show when you explain that it's part of the process and why you have them do a rough draft--so they can put ideas out there and get feedback before it counts.
Hey thanks for all the responses to this -- I've been enjoying it and feel free to keep them coming. Many things are bad but music is good.
