I'm rewatching FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON, but did not realize that the episode I downloaded to watch on the plane was all about the Apollo 1 fire that killed 3 astronauts trapped inside the module during testing. Great airplane watching. π¬ I'm sure my seatmates thought I was a horrible ghoul.

I have already made the classic O'Hare mistake of buying a grab-and-go turkey sandwich instead of just going to Tortas Frontera. Like an effing rookie. I truly did not know it was possible to make a turkey pesto sandwich with this little taste. A marvel of science! π
I'm off to Vegas for the Broadcast Education Association conference. It's part of the big NAB Show, which is kind of a trip. Doing a panel on teaching TV History in the Streaming Era with Nora Patterson and Kyra Hunting! Also gonna carve out time for the Punk Rock Museum and the Neon Museum. β¨
Listen, children...they used to mail you the internet. #MediaArchaeology
Josh Johnson FTW, as usual. @joshjohnsoncomedy.bsky.social
So of course the day after everyone leaves town from #SCMS26, it's 79F and sunny in Chicago. As usual, March weather in the Chi is straight petty. π
A million thanks to everyone who made #SCMS26 happen, including SCMS staff and committee members, hotel staff, vendors, etc. Your labor is visible and appreciated!
Awesome to see everyone at #SCMS26! Thanks for the exciting work, the commiseration, and the care in times of uncertainty.
Last panel slot! Local folks who don't have to get to the airport gotta take it over the finish line. Let's do this. π #SCMS26
One more plug for our roundtable at 5:15pm! #SCMS26
And yes, I sometimes struggle to take my own advice on this one, so this is a reminder for me too π
Once again sharing my annual advice for conference-going: Be sure to eat a vegetable every once in a while. It's easy to get to Day 3 feeling like garbage and then realize you've only eaten granola bars and bar food. Eat a plant when you can. (And drink water and not just coffee!) #SCMS26
And by "full stop" I mean "definitely don't stop," obvi.
Sharing photos of your pets supervising you as you pack for the conference is absolutely service to the field, full stop. #SCMS26 #SCMS2026
Your panel is also on my list!

Hey, SoCal friends/colleagues! Looks like I'll be in LA for most of May for research. Would love to see some folks while I'm there! (I'm also available to visit classes, give talks, etc., if you want to subject yourselves & your students to my particular brand of nerdery.) #ArchiveFever #TVhistory
In which journalist, critic, and all-around badass @moryan.bsky.social reads Grammarly to absolute filth for being slop merchants and robber-barons. Read it, if only to see a work of takedown beauty, written by an actual human.
(Can be something very simple or something more complicated or anything in between.)
Dear hivemind: What are you cooking/baking these days that you really love? I have a tendency toward feckless doomscrolling, and cooking has been one thing that helps me refocus toward tangible action. What are you making these days that especially brings you joy, nourishment, peace, etc.?

So pumped to be doing an SCMS roundtable titled βTV and Catastrophe: Revisiting Classical Questionsβ with Kelly Kessler, Aniko Bodroghkozy @anikob.bsky.social, Samantha Janes, and Emily Saidel! #SCMS26 #SCMS2026 #TVstudies #TVhistory
Awesome! Thanks, Catherine!
(They don't need to be super obscure stumpers. These are mostly first-year Film & Television students, so mostly teenagers, and I want them to actually have fun. So a few easier ones and few more challenging ones are good.)
An orange, yellow, and black image requesting good film & TV trivia questions for a new student welcome event.
Crowdsource request: Hey, film & TV savvy people! I'm doing a trivia session during our new student welcome event tomorrow, and I'm still writing the questions. If you've got a good trivia question related to film & TV (or media more broadly), sound off in the replies!

Hello, colleagues! I'm putting together a proposed #SCMS26 panel on Television and Catastrophe. (I know at least one of you has to be working on Chernobyl, right?) Hope you'll consider sending me a topic proposal!
