At public meetings I like to calculate the percentage of our city that's not attending. Usually it's around 99.99%.

I used to be like this but then I missed a flight for the first time in my life and they just put me on the next one for free. After that I wasn’t so careful.
Have you been watching my online chess games?
… that when Sindarov talks about specific things he has done for chess training, the relationship to what’s useful at the amateur level is not so strong. And if I believed strongly that people should study classic games, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
I don’t know the lore about Magnus, but for any super GM, the period of time they spent as a beginner and intermediate player is vanishingly short, and many years ago. So about 99% of their specific chess training memories are going to be from when they were at least IM strength. Which means…
The history of labor-saving tech and economic growth is that while there is short-term pain and some who earn less than before, the economy always eventually finds jobs it is willing to pay almost all the humans to do.
I don't think it's literally true that Sindarov has never studied classic games.
Kids these days!
It’s selected as a puzzle because the engine eval of the solution is outside a certain threshold (plus some other criteria about the moves leading to the “solution”).
It was so exciting when a new version came out
Isn’t he in the bottom right?
Were they even born yet? Also who’s the guy next to Anand?
My pet peeve about Lichess puzzles: the ones with unclear solutions. Yes the engine says it’s -3 at the end of this puzzle but if white plays Qd5 winning the material back, is that really clear enough to be a puzzle solution? lichess.org/training/qN0If

The greatest players of the 2000s: Topalov, Kasparov, Kramnik, Erdogmus
Someone could write a whole book about system 1 and system 2 in chess. Ability in both is clearly correlated (GMs tend to be very good at bullet) but what can we learn from people who have successfully improved at one or the other?
That makes sense. I also pay close attention when there’s some aspect of the position which 1) is key to the solution, 2) I didn’t notice, and 3) seems like it could’ve been easy to notice. That makes a good flash card.
And sometimes a puzzle is rated 2510 but I just play natural moves until it gives me credit for getting it right lichess.org/training/yk79O
Weather forecasts are so good now, they can pre-schedule the end of the rain delay.
