Ok, I have to say having a #grant go from waiting on an NOA that never game to not discussed is pretty soul-crushing 😢 Grateful to have multiple irons in the fire and hoping for better outcomes for the next three on the horizon. I continue to learn to practice what I preach about #resilience!

Our undergraduate volunteer, Naga Alyamani, made this beautiful poster to distill our message for anyone who wants to learn more about our lab's mission. We are so proud of Naga and grateful for her efforts in science communication. If you get our newsletter, she is the person putting it together!

I am so proud of these scholars and impressed by them. My pedagogical style is all about meeting students where they are and the difference it makes is so incredibly visible. I love my job! [4/4]

It brings tears to my eyes to see students communicating about topics in neuroanatomy and (from last year) research methods through mediums they are passionate about. Their work is so beautiful & the effort they put into these assignments really shows their eagerness to apply their knowledge. [3/4]

Already, the first submissions are coming in for neuroanatomy. They never fail to make me cry!!! Students are creating phenomenal works to communicate complex topics in an engaging and friendly manner for new learners at all levels. Being able to do this shows their mastery and individuality. I love assigning creative projects for finals in my courses, to allow students to use their unique talents to show how much they've learned and to overcome barriers and limitations with traditional testing. [thread; 1/4]

Adding this to my list of books for my dream course on neuroscience and mental health in literature!

Fourth book of 2026 was a memoir of a patient/author's therapeutic journey. While a bit dry at times, I found it quite impactful for someone to share so transparently in such an eye-opening way.

I feel like the luckiest person ever to see all my dreams coming true--leading science I am passionate about, working with the most incredible team, and being able to cultivate a positive work environment for best success of not just the lab but each team member, both professionally & personally. 🥹

As we've seen the past two #F1 seasons, when the car (the equipment, facilities) is not up to snuff (aka #RedBull's car), then even the best driver (the PI & #research team) can't effectively win the race ( #MaxVerstappen) or execute the science.

Adequate indirect costs are essential to research!

#F1 as a metaphor for direct and indirect costs:
- #DirectCosts support the driver, aka the PI. This person 'steers' the #science and leads the implementation of the proposed project.
- #IndirectCosts support the car, pit crew, etc, aka maintain #equipment, #facilities, & support #administrators.

I am so proud of these women in science! Ujala Janjua, our lab manager, is an exceptional leader & mentor within the lab who has been a great supporter in Khrystyna's honors thesis project and this poster presentation. They are both stars!

Third book of 2026 was a profound short story collection found in Seoul bookstore Kyobo while visiting Korea for my dear friend's birthday. Reading these stories helped me gain a small bit of insight into a rich culture that is so new to me.
