10 children were shot today in Shreveport, LA and 8 of them died. The police chief just doesn’t know how something like this could ever happen. But I think he knows exactly how something like this could happen and it has to do with the > 393 million guns in this country w/ very little regulation.

Texas Medical Board Sanctions Three Doctors for Delayed Care That Led to the Deaths of Two Pregnant Women The two women died during miscarriages. The state’s medical board has ruled that substandard care led to their deaths.

So doctors are screwed no matter what they do. Even if these doctors made mistakes (or were anti-choice?) the real culprit is the Texas abortion ban that makes doctors afraid to act. The Texas Medical Board is cementing the anti-choice myth that women's deaths are doctors' fault. No, it's the law.

Also being intentionally obtuse makes you seem like a petulant jackass, not a "data guy".

If you murder your significant other, it seems rather obvious it goes way beyond a breakup and that you go from being that SO to a murderer. It's simple, you don't need to play devil's advocate, we're full on devils.

Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X
Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

This isn't the purpose of alt text. Imagine you're blind and can only see text since your phone reads it to you.

Alt text is where you can describe an image for a reader: a black dog sleeping curled in a circle peacefully, looking to the left

The Obamas made the Democratic party wider and pushed it further left. There is more nuance than your black and white thinking.

If you kill your wife, you don't get to be a husband anymore Some lessons from the media coverage of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer's murders.

My latest.

I’ve been watching the media coverage of the murders of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer.

One way media can fight back against male violence:

If you kill your wife, you don’t get to be called a β€œhusband” any more.

You’re her killer.

Imagine being so unpopular and evil that you have to drop this amount of money and invent new forms of ratfucking so you can beat a 27-year-old who regularly wears a Snorlax onesie to bed.
