Bothered by bright headlights? Your time to tell Transport Canada is running out | CBC News Transport Canada's survey on headline brightness is open to drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, and includes questions about travelling at night, driver behaviour and possible changes.

If you havent filled out the survey, theres still time. I’m finding it harder and harder to drive at night because of blinding headlights and I’m sure I am not alone www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

Building on Halifax Examiner investigation, analyst compiles list of anti-competitive restrictive grocery covenants across Canada - Halifax Examiner Jacob Filipp published list in March detailing how big grocers are preventing competition.

List includes restrictive covenants for grocery & retail locations in Ontario, Edmonton, B.C., and more than a dozen in Halifax & Dartmouth.

“Food is not optional and this is an area where we need a bit more regulation or enforcement of existing regulations," he told @suzannerent.bsky.social

It only takes a minute to use the online tool to send a message to your provincial Minister of Health!

Sometimes when you’re enjoying a novel and trucking along, a line leaps out at you as one that you KNOW the author and the copyeditor came to blows over. Very clear vibes of the author narrowing their eyes and thinking “You are technically correct and I will rewrite this but you will regret it.”

Cover art for Interview with the Vampire done as a “clinch” romance cover, with a vampire in full traditional Bela Lugosi costume, holding a swooning woman. Because sure, let’s trick people into thinking this book is a traditional bodice ripper romance novel.

Fifty years ago today, Interview with the Vampire was released. That means I must share the most unhinged cover art the book has ever had, and yes I have it in my collection.

I've never seen this one, and I wish my brain had had room for anything but work recently (and that I'd remembered the masks-required shows were a thing). Ah, well.

I keep forgetting about this! I haven't been to the theatre in forever (like, noticeably pre-covid).

My understanding is there's some kind of scam going around that sneaks in using an app password onto your account, leaves you alone for a bit then takes over. So periodically go into settings and check if there's an app password on your account when there shouldn't be, revoke those no longer needed

I keep coming back to this "brain capital" report. We're at the place where we need to make the case for the economic importance of the human brain.

Everything feels like farce right now. The 20th-century absurdists only got a taste of how ridiculous we all could get.

Salvation Day ebook by Kali Wallace - Rakuten Kobo Read "Salvation Day" by Kali Wallace available from Rakuten Kobo. A lethal virus is awoken on an abandoned spaceship in this incredibly fast-paced, claustrophobic thriller. They thought ...

Salvation Day by Kali Wallace is on for $1.99 (US and CA that I can see, possibly elsewhere). This is a great claustrophobic thriller that is also deeply human and cathartic. I loved it. www.kobo.com/ca/en/ebook/...

One last point: When governments talk about "age verification," they also mean "identity verification"

So even if you're 55 years old, you will be virtually carded and all your social media activity will be linked to your identity. That means no online anonymity and raises privacy issues for adults

That looks so neat! Not available on the east coast, but I'll keep an eye out in case that ever changes.
