Shh! Can you hear that diagram?
What does a diagram sound like? What does the shape of a sound feel like? Researchers at @qmuleecs.bsky.social explored how to help the visually impaired through multi-modal interfaces.

I'm working on a lovely side-project with @cs4fn.bsky.social & @c4dm.bsky.social at @qmuleecs.bsky.social to help create some classroom resources (for primary and secondary schools) based on the use of AI in analysing music (in particular underrepresented musical tradition).
If you have / teach children you might enjoy our free Hallowe'en Spooky Zine, from @cs4fn.bsky.social at @qmuleecs.bsky.social.
There are puzzles to solve and pictures to colour in, then fold into a cute booklet.
Bonus info: classroom links with computational thinking.

Computer Science at Sea
We think of computers and electronics generally as machines that must stay dry (not least because you can electrocute yourself ...don't do this at home!) but there are lots of ways that computer science is of help at, on, watching over or under the sea...

This year, for the first time, #IEEE #EDUCON is being held in the UK! And we’re so proud that it’s being hosted at Queen Mary educon-conference.org
As the conference kicks off, hear from its chair Usman Naeem about this year’s themes and aims. @qmuleecs.bsky.social @qmulse.bsky.social
A pull up banner thanking our sponsors which are as follows: Platinum Sponsors - MathWorks and Try Engineering, Gold Sponsor - Pearson, Sponsor - Abet and IOT Cloud World, Local Sponsors - QMUL and Visit London, Technical Sponsors - IEEE Education Society and IEEE Region 8.
A pull-up banner welcoming our delegates and letting them know that the 2025 theme is "Sustaining educational excellence in engineering - generative AI in enhancing critical thinking and active learning".
A mildly arty shot of the wooden floor in the anteroom to the Octagon at QMUL which has our Q logo inlaid in a lighter coloured wood. On top of it is a suitcase which has transported some of the stuff we need to put signs up and make sure no-one gets lost. There are also boxes of magazines to give out and some pull-up banners waiting to be unpacked and set up.
This is a large A2 posterboard in blue with the Educon 2025 colouring and logo branding etc and an A4 polypocket attached. There are several A4 pieces of paper in it and the first announces the next event in that room. Here is't room GC202 and the first event there is at 1pm and it will be a Workshop on "An engineering course through remote experimentation - an introduction to electric and electronic circuits." Once that event has finished the bit of paper is discarded and the one behind it says what the next event will be. These are positioned on a small easel outside the room. Very efficient.
Excited to welcoming delegates to a sold out #EduCon2025 ("The IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (IEEE EDUCON)") from IEEE hosted at @qmul.ac.uk with fellow volunteers from @qmuleecs.bsky.social :) 2025.ieee-educon.org
