2/2 The watercolor would bead up so
I used Golden Absorbent Ground in several very thin layers, 5-10 minutes between coats.

Then the 3d surfaces took watercolor beautifully! I used black gouache for the eyes, nose, mouths. Pan pastels in a berry color for the cheeks. And uv resin to glaze.

I used Magic Scupt two part epoxy clay, with gloves and in front of my spray booth that exhausts to an open window.

Once that cured (24 hours) I painted it with Badger Airbrush Stynylrez SNR-401 primer in white.

At this point, the surface was still too smooth for watercolor. 1/2

Can’t have a kiln, but I’m obsessed with ceramic miniatures. Spent four years studying ceramics, emulating each step to make them look and feel like glazed ceramic. #art steps in comments

Mini bear #art. Sculpted in epoxy clay. Primed, then used watercolor ground so the watercolor sweaters could be transparent. Trying to replicate how glaze and underglaze work. Uv resin topcoat. Yellow is 1in, red is 0.5in.
