When the Executive Accidentally Supported the Movement: Participatory Democracy and the Rise of the Non-Profit Industrial Complex | Columbia Journal of Race and Law

I have a new piece on the Community Action Program arguing the Johnson Admin developed core tools of the non-profit industrial complex. TLDR: They liked rhetoric of "participation" but were unprepared for influence of Baker/SNCC/Highlander. Couldn't fully unwind EOA so they built tools to limit CAP

Given Chaos, I don’t expect anyone to notice the hearing for head of Federal Housing Finance Agency. But FHFA is one of the most consequential agencies that most folks have never heard of. And chief on its agenda will be full privatization of Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. Here’s why that’s very bad. 1/5

Vital City | In Defense of Social Justice Upheaval The former executive director of The Bronx Defenders argues that the young, radical staffers disrupting nonprofit organizations are (mostly) right.

"Today, I find myself in agreement with our rebellious staff...that a nuanced and incrementalist approach has not achieved [change]...that our progress has often been co-opted...that we must grapple with systemic racism within our own organizations..." - Reflections from ex-E.D. of Bronx Defenders

The canary in the coal mine here was New College of Florida, a state honors college. DeSantis is now making similar moves at Univ of West Florida, a non-elite public college. So I wouldn’t count on it just being an issue for Ivies.
