It's always a thrill to see Elizabeth I's (larger than life) signature! You can see it in person in our "How to Be a Power Player: Tudor Edition" exhibition now through the end of July.

And check out this opportunity to learn to read early modern handwriting! Tricky but rewarding! 👇

Here's the whole tooled pigskin binding. The book inside, published by Katherine Gerlach in Nürnberg in 1585, is comprised of two musical texts, one of which is printed (particularly beautifully) in red and black on vellum!

A little darling of a 16th c. German book clasp at #NewberryLibrary (Case C 868 .586). Looks a bit like a sunflower, doesn't it? 🌞🌻#EmotionalSupport #BookFurniture

#Skystorians, I'm trying to see if there's an interest in an online early modern/late medieval German paleography group, where we'd transcribe or look over documents together on Zoom.

If anyone would be interested in joining something like this, let me know!

Vielleicht das beste, was man im Moment tun kann: In Schallplatten investieren. Bei Isovinyl in Buxtehude.

A large accumulation of amphorae scattered across the sandy ocean floor. The amphorae are densely clustered, with many partially buried in the seabed, forming the distinct shape of a ship. The scene is illuminated by dim, bluish underwater light.

An absolutely stunning photo! The 35m-long #Roman shipwreck, along with its cargo of 6,000 (!) amphorae was discovered in 2019 off the coast of the Greek Island of Kefalonia.
It’s one of the largest Roman shipwrecks found in the Mediterranean.
