Hot from the press, this fascinating and highly practical handbook by writer Muli Amaye. It’s packed with examples of fiction by Black writers followed by analysis and exercises. Beautifully written and highly recommended. Published by Bloomsbury Academic. #creativewriting #fiction #shortfiction

Just finished this fine collection by @grahammort.bsky.social. Spacious, involving storytelling, but with great momentum - every detail takes the narrative forward. I always read for pleasure, but you can't help but learn from writing like this.
I’ll be teaching a short fiction course @arvonfoundation.bsky.social next week at the re-furbished writing centre at Lumb Bank. I’ll be working with writer Vanessa Onwuemezi, which will be a special treat!

The wonderful veracity and evocation in this story. I worked in a former asylum at just the transitional time it describes. @grahammort.bsky.social chooses detail with such precision. I'm reading his latest collection Like Fado at the moment, and everything he describes comes to life. A joy to read.
"Our patients rose to the occasion, taking on an air of curiosity and dignity. Showing us what they might have been, if only they could have been."
Wow, @grahammort.bsky.social . I was so moved by this story. There's a full novel in here, yet the pacing and chronology is so tight.
Thanks you so much. It was a pleasure to be with you all and some really excellent writing emerged!
I'll be running an online workshop on February 11th for the European Writers Salon. Suitable for all writers, we'll look at how we actually experience experience and how that, in turn, influences our writing and the way it navigates perception, space and time.

Writers Salon, you probably should. I attended their recent meeting in Brussels and the quality of readings and discussions was outstanding.
Salt Books published my collection of short stories ‘Like Fado and other stories’ in 2020. Like a lot of independent presses their future depends on the support of writers and readers everywhere. See below for details. @saltpublishing.com 🦀 gofund.me/412e1a4a1

Text of Graham Mort’s poem ‘Fever'.
Migratory birds and human conflict have always compelled me to write. Here’s a new poem of mine published in 'The North' magazine (Issue 71) by The Poetry Business, UK.
I’m offering an online creative writing workshop with @saloneurope.bsky.social on September 25th. The EWS is bringing together writers across Europe through the medium of English. See below for details of my workshop and information about the Salon.

I’ve gone back to analogue photography. Here’s an image of the Picos Mountains (North-West Spain) shot on my 1951 Leica. Once the world’s most advanced camera, it still works perfectly and is a joy to operate.
Here’s the latest issue of @poetrywales.bsky.social with my poem ‘Waveforms’ and work by an international cast of poets!
We are delighted that @grahammort.bsky.social will be teaching a Prose writing class for us online. Read all about it and other events in our newsletter

Text of poem ‘Hidden Things’, by CP Cavafy.
I found this poem again by CP Cavafy yesterday. It seems so sad and irresolute and yet hopeful too. All lives are hidden and yet there is the urge to share them. Maybe that’s especially true of writers where the aesthetic form of their work is a veil that can be parted.
