For years I've been faking beef stock w soy grits, dry-toasted, stewed and 'finished' with toasted sesame oil, some Engevita yeast and a dash if pomegranate molasses. 'Rest' 24 hrs. Strain and use for stroganoff, goulash, beef enchiladas soup, Ghiuvetch (Romanian Vegetable Stew). Stump the foodies.

In a shop window, I can see I present two barriers to communication: mask and black hornrims. Three, in summer w floppy sun hat. So if I'm outside, I will doff the hat, mask and hornrims to engage -- it works. But indoors, removing just the hat & specs doesn't work. They keep looking at the mask 🤷♀️
Normally, I'd have agreed with your last sentence, but these days -- post-Covid brain rot? -- human contact is no longer normal, or civil. Most folk see my N95 and immediately tune out -- what I say and how I say it is irrelevant, as long as I'm speaking through cloth.

Rest while it's quiet. Heaven knows nobody can actually sleep in hospital -- not in my recent experience. We were the Shared Room Quartet. One who snored, one who moaned and one who tossed & turned, making their bed squeal... and me, wide awake and grinding my teeth.

Dx remained for the next 3 mos, while he did his rehab and waited to see a thoracic specialist. THAT doctor announced that it was 'Post-Covid Sequelae' -- then the patient records were changed. Finally. But this year his slow-growing prostate cancer killed him, accelerated by Covid.
