This pattern is robust across populations, yet shaped by culture and relationship context. We also found differences between loneliness facets and attachment dimensions, though these may reflect scale characteristics rather than conceptual distinctions.

Why do some people feel lonelier than others? Drawing on 441 effects, our meta-analysis shows a clear link between insecure attachment orientations (anxious or avoidant) and loneliness (r= .38).
