During the program, full of music by women, most of whom they'd never heard of, they asked really interesting questions during intermission, afterwards, and even between pieces. One woman in particular, a librarian, was fascinated by the stories behind the composers. So...much...fun!
I always love performing in the little mountain town of Floyd, Virginia. It's known as a bluegrass town, located on what's known as the Crooked Road Music Trail so the audiences are wonderfully different. Very inquisitive, not necessarily dead silent while listening, and open-minded. Such a joy!
Me sitting at a 1922 Erard baby grand at the Floyd Center for the Arts.
This weekend I got to perform my "Let them Soar!" program of music by women composers on a 1922 Erard piano. Such a different experience from playing on a German or Japanese piano. The action was incredibly light.
I don't think there is anything quite like finishing up a recital program and getting to start learning music for a new one. It's absolutely thrilling and refreshing. 😍
This is a program that means so very much to me. Performing these works and knowing these women's stories motivates me to keep growing more and more proud of who I am and who we are as women - artists, moms, wives, women, leaders.
Tomorrow! On Saturday I'll be performing my "Let them Soar!" recital and story recital in Floyd, VA at the Floyd Center for the Arts.
Please consider joining us! And if you can stick around afterwards, consider joining us for dinner...somewhere in Floyd, TBD.
Trying something new! Here's hopefully one of many promo videos about my program, "Let them Soar! Stories about women and their music."
This is a program I gave many times last year that I really love so I'm delighted to be bringing it back, this time in Floyd, VA.
Literally just purchased this book simply because it has decorated pages and especially because of the jellyfish.
Am I that type of person? Yep. But I have to say that judging a book by its cover has always worked well for me.
Same goes with wine.

Good morning! 🪶
It's a percussion piece called "Table Music" by Thierry de May.

Oh dear! Sometimes my determination to learn new things leads me to learning the most bizarre yet interesting things. 😱😳🫣🤣
So young, yet so wise.
In case you're curious about the Anna von Schaden/Antonio Rosetti piano concerto I just performed, here's a link to the video! This is the B flat major concerto and I believe it's the first time it's been performed in the US.
Cadenzas are written by me.
Enjoy. 🥰

Artist, creative, musician friends, please take the time to watch 5 minutes of comedian Josh Johnson's recent show. I found this so incredibly inspiring and motivating. Should be set to start at the 3:22 mark.

For what it's worth, huge hat-tip to Mellow Mushroom for their strawberry lemon-limeade. It's my new go-to for performance days when I need a little pep-me up. Makes me really happy.
Ahhhh...
“The only love affair I have ever had was with music.” Maurice Ravel was born 151 years ago today. Here's my Gramophone cover story from last year's 150th celebrations!

Another part of my conversation with @lewispatzner.bsky.social of the Town Quartet about our April 4 lecture-concert in Berkeley.
Some of the pieces you’ll hear at the concert have still never been recorded!
Such a joy to perform and to hear @classicalbeat.bsky.social ‘s talk about Anna beforehand.
Thank you, Antonio! You know what it’s like to give a neglected work light and life. 😊 So honored. ❤️
So excited for this Saturday's performance which I believe will be the US premiere of Anna von Schaden's B-flat major piano concerto. Such a fabulous work. The second movement breaks my heart EVERY time!
And what an honor to be joined by the inspiring, amazing, @classicalbeat.bsky.social .
It turns out you also have to register for the pre-concert talk. Here's the link for that:

Clock is ticking until this performance I'm very excited about. I believe this will be the US premiere of Anna von Schaden's B-flat major piano concerto. Also thrilled that Anne Midgette
@classicalbeat.bsky.social will be there to give a pre-concert talk.
Saturday, February 28th - Virginia Tech
That worked. Thanks again!
Had a wonderful moment this past week with a student. A voice student, at the end of a coaching, asked if she could play piano for me. I said, "Of course!" She then played a composition she had written. I was stunned and so moved.
Gave me such a moment of hope and thankfulness. 🥰
Ahhhh! I'll give that one a try, thank you!
So excited to do a run-through of Anna von Schaden's piano concerto with my colleague at Radford this afternoon in preparation for a performance happening with orchestra in a few weeks.
Does anyone know if there's someplace to stream the movie from 2006 called the Page Turner?
