What a wonderful talk we just heard from @lovedalen.bsky.social at @liigh-unam.bsky.social this morning! Everything from adventures to the Arctic to recover ancient DNA, lemmings, mammoths and yaks! 🦬🦣🐁 Super exciting discoveries and super entertaining seminar!

As part of the SAMBAI project, @bertharz.bsky.social studies cancer genomics in populations of recent African ancestry.
This is a unique opportunity to make science more accessible and support historically underserved communities.

This week, @nature.com published an article on how I use mathematical models to study what is otherwise very hard to measure: the scale and dynamics of cartels.
How a mathematician is cracking open Mexico's powerful drug cartels.

I agree - best feeling in the world 😍
Wow, this is amazing!!! Congratulations Chris!!!!
Thank you :D
Gracias Mari! Abrazos!! 🍀

Thanks so much Peter, so nice to hear from you! I hope you have been doing well, and I hope we are able to meet again soon!!
Sometimes it's the only option 😂 hope you have been well!!! And to see you soon ☺️
Thank you Itai!! It took so so long 😅😅
Thanks for the kindness in review! I saw your name below.. 😊
We are also incredibly thankful to our editors and reviewers, who treated us with kindness and respect, and made this long journey interesting and enjoyable!
..and others. Finally, most importantly, really really thankful to patients and their families for accepting to form part of this study. We hope this helps lead to better treatments in the future!!
Alethia Alvarez and Dorian Ortega, from INCan, who helped us interpret these results clinically. And to all co-authors, thank you so much. Our wonderful funders @wellcometrust.bsky.social, @melanomaresearch.bsky.social, the Mexican government, our University, the Academy of Medical Sciences 🇬🇧 ...
And @christianmolinaag.bsky.social, who supported these studies since the beginning in a crucial way, @patriciapossik.bsky.social & @davidjadams.bsky.social, the eternal #LA #melanoma team, and Rob Judson-Torres and Rich White, who helped us interpret our results. Massive thanks to Hector Martinez..
We also find different gene expression and somatic profiles associated to patient survival. We believe this work illustrates the value of studying diverse populations in cancer research. Massive thanks to first author @pbasurto.bsky.social, who made it all happen, @estefvazquez.bsky.social ...
Here, we study #acral #melanoma tumours from Mexican patients. We find a correlation between BRAF mutation rate and European ancestry, and a potential different cell of origin (c-mel melanocytes) for BRAF-activated tumours compared to a v-mel cell of origin for non-BRAF mutated tumours.
We are very happy to see our study finally appear online @nature.com! This has been work of nearly 10 years in collaboration with the National Institute of Genome Medicine 🇲🇽, the National Cancer Institute 🇲🇽, the @sangerinstitute.bsky.social and others ⬇️

Somatic mutational signatures describe where mutations come from 🧬. But do they shape how proteins function? In our new preprint, we show that mutational processes can systematically rewire cellular signaling networks by altering short linear motifs (SLiMs). Preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
From twitter, I miss being able to see what people were talking about with #trends
Wow Theo this is so cool! Again :D amazing

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail
