I’ve never been more proud to be Labor.

Especially WA Labor.

Love to all of those who have been fighting like hell to remind people that Labor would do what they can as soon as they possibly could.

❤️

Happy Easter!

I'm so hard right now

And not just because it's everything I hoped for/work for

New Bill on manipulative practices etc that amend the ACL.

Has anyone checked in on the Americans to see how they feel about things

I’d love to get another perspective from people who haven’t had the chance to speak yet

Especially about fuel being $1 a litre

Are they okay

The Eternal September 11 Rules for thee, not for me. Huh.

Speaking of teasmith.au/p/the-eterna...

(Sorry, spent some time cleaning up old posts and haven't shared in a while, so let's just say I'm tired of winning)

Forgot to mention I got this for $1 at the op shop the other day

It’s my favourite mug but I had to say I was buying ironically because Zoomers were giving me the stink eye

Bitch I was there when they lost it over the Dixie Chicks stfu

Anyway, I am acutely aware of how cringe this is, but honestly, I am just so tired of insincerity, and veneers, and curated words, and fake... I have always been and will always be honest, and man we really gotta shed that Xennial beef with earnestness man. We done fucked this shit up.

It's hard when you've been the child of an addict - especially when your parent has died from it - and actually needing pain relief. I am so immensely grateful that, despite shortened lifespan etc, I can function. I have access. But man... I hate these fucking patches. Anyway.

I get introspective when I am in pain too, and so it's always a good time to write... and I have done that. The discipline part is still being worked on, but one day I will sort through the some 7 million words that are good but not great. One day!

Yes I am up reading Reddit because every 6 months I decide "hey, maybe I don't have pain anymore and don't need this patch" and so I see how long I can go and all the pain hits me like a wave, and I cry, and I put it back on. It fucking sucks, but I'm grateful it can be managed.

Right place, right time, right thing, right person. TL;DR Ben Folds has a new song and you should listen.

I dunno, anyway, it's just funny how he is kinda like a Muse. Just unlocks something that gets me thinking and introspecting in a certain way. I can't explain it. It feels fucking creepy tbh but then I see others are like that and it's cool.

Anyway it reminded me of this teasmith.au/p/right-plac...

Anyway, I am not much of a Reddit poster and most of my energy has gone into more disciplined writing, but waiting until stuff is more complete than my usual just letting words pour out ...and living in a pile of excellent, but still only good first drafts that never get to be great.

Anyway, I landed on r/benfolds where some fans were sharing about @actualbenfolds.bsky.social - and it really is very cool to see new generations of suspected but probable autists discovering him and finding comfort. It really is a gift, that.

I find parasocial shit weird, but it's just cool.

I've been creatively stuck for a while because all my energy was being eaten by my buprenorphine patch and sheer career change exhaustion, but I landed on Reddit at 4am (because, yesterday, I ripped off my patch in my sleep and thought 'maybe I don't need it'. I need it. It's back. OMG. I need it.)

If you want to create a movement, you need to a) want more people in and b) appeal to the public.

Doctorow brought complex problems that LED US HERE into the zeitgeist. If not for that, we'd be 15 years behind rather than 10 on regulation/public understanding.

Politics is not a fucking club.

Me not starting shit - 10 post thread

lol sorry, I just have such immense gratitude for Cory Doctorow's work and what he did for digital rights in terms of getting people to understand how UX is political/should be regulated.

I am forever in his debt. And yeah, a bit jealous. But I'm an adult.

I wasn't starting anything, but it boils my piss. Not an ounce of street cred among them, letting those who do sit in shit for doing the hard work, whilst they write about how everyone else is doing it wrong & take the credit.

I say this with all the love, but fucking hell. Grow up.

So "people like Doctorow" are forever in his debt for bringing a concept to the mainstream for us to talk about it in a meaningful materialist way, rather than this post-materialist pish where fascism and socialism are aesthetics, not action. Fuck you.

2 weeks ago 0 0 2 0

If there is one thing I want you to know, it is how hard it was to get people to see these problems, to get anyone to care about the political impact of these design decisions.

I do, because I was fucking there, talking about it, and was called a fucking Nazi and TERF for doing so.

Anyway, back to my life, which is working tirelessly to leverage the ACL to fight tech in the courts. You are no better or different to any cyberbully, no matter how much you dress it up in shallow, undergrad analysis about "culture". US culture of course. Which isn't diverse, or complex. Nar.

2 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

Anyway I wasn't going to start shit, but I am so tired of these people who constantly talk about other "types of people" - the subtext being that they - having collected various stickers over the years due to their serving the same machine they claim to fight - are not a "type of person".

Nothing they hate more than the icky kind of autism, btw. You know, the kind that is only selectively deserving of patience/empathy i.e. share your political opinions.

"People like Paris Marx" are a pox on the internet, and people who have written about the internet longer than 2015 know that.

2 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

Not that Paris Marx is an old schooler, but rather seems to have been rewarded for being a horrible person online and pandering to a crowd of people who hate Elon Musk because of his icky autism and taking away their favourite chew toy/bully machine, not substantive reasons (which are legitimate).

I know I said I wanted no beef, but for crying out loud. Doctorow now?

I'm sorry he doesn't sit around posting to an echo chamber about how you fight technofascism by posting harder about people who have 20+ years on you (myself included).

FFS. Grow up.

2 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

I have no interest in getting into any beef with anyone who critiques tech (mostly because I'm busy and it's a pointless waste of life seconds), including the more Cancelfuck-oriented nitpickers but ffs... Doctorow?

If you reach the conclusion he is a worthy target right now, you're so far gone...

2 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

I know it comes from jealousy, because yes, us old schoolers have done similar analysis, but he's the first to admit it took a village and he got lucky.

As to the substance, whatever, you do you boo, but I dunno maybe focus on the actual imminent threats, like, you know, EVERYTHING else in tech.

2 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

I could not think of a less deserving target for this than Doctorow, man.

Geez. Come on, guys. This is silly. Yes, we get it (I get it), you're mad that someone had a breakthrough hit and there are lots of us doing this analysis, but... seriously.

Come on now.

"Someone like Doctorow" brought a concept to the mainstream that many of us have been trying and failing for years to articulate, and have brought anti-capitalist analysis to the public.

FFS. This stuff is so tedious.

Facing yourself is hard to do (we see the result of not doing that every day on this app - I mean look at the people who do not 'introspect' and content-brained people where it is always everyone else.)

They're miserable. Don't be like them.
