Larissa Waters asks former Treasury chief Ken Henry if it’s too simplistic to say wartime gas profits from the war on Iran can either go to Australians, or to overseas investors & shareholders.
Henry “That’s not simplistic, that’s how it is!” “It is as simple as that.” 💥 #auspol

Mind you, following the usage of Antarctic Place Names, “Trump Land” covering the subglacial basins of West Antarctica has some resonance. Not solidly grounded, retreats when the heat is on, unstable, hard to understand…
I’m hopeful that his ignorance, the lack of any immediate gain, the inertia in the system (simply getting out of the ATS) and the finite tenure of madness will all mitigate the actual risk there.
Thanks for saying this. I’ve seen three dear old folk, two parents, cared for with dedication and sensitivity in their last months - by faces from across the globe but hearts of common humanity. How about we stop this 💩 demonising and dividing society?!
Older plot from IPCC AR5, showing risk of impacts for different sectors at 2 and 4 degrees of warming, along with shading indicating adaptation potential to reduce risks at those two temperature targets
Anyone know an updated version of this figure (or something similar) showing for different sectors risk at 2 vs 4 deg. AND potential capacity for adaptation to reduce risk? I know the burning embers diagrams, but looking for one that includes adaptation

Never heard of it either. A shocker.
OK hear commentary saying this gives a short walk from flight deck to medical bay.
Anyone with knowledge care to explain why the helo retrieval rather than the IRBs already present? #ArtemisII

🎯 Where Antarctic science meets policy
On Wednesday, ACEAS and @antarctic.bsky.social brought together more than 80 policy makers from across government and the non‑government sector for the first Antarctic Science–Policy Dialogue.

What can I say? Lent is over, chocolate is OK again - the next abstinence shall be the insipid green pear shaped pale imitation fruit. 😉😆
Looks highly valuable. Worth noting that it’s a Human Industrial Footprint (HIF) map, which doesn’t capture indirect disturbance from anthropogenic climate changes - eg drying and fire in south and west Tasmania. So green is good but not “undisturbed” in total.
This is so well put. My favourite part: “Serendipity doesn't come from efficiency. It comes from spending time in the space where the problem lives,”

Ugh! Just posted the following a few days ago about another example…

Best wishes for the future. May your own aspirations be fulfilled and your talents continue to enrich science and society.
Thanks for the speedy and informative reply.
Nice use of Bluesky too - some science Q&A!
What’s the level of confidence that there isn’t some climate or preservation age dependence causing a glacial (low) bias in the oldest ice?
Nice work John, and congratulations to the team. The paper suggests that if anything there is a possible interglacial bias in the means - something that doesn’t help understand the lower values than the ocean boron….

A nice look at a place l where I remember a couple of special stays. Cooked up a seafood risotto with cosy stove and windows misty. A few of us on upper bunks dodging the summer melt drips from the roof.
How good is Sabra Lane reading TAS weekend news on @abcnewsbot.bsky.social?
Just love her calm and authoritative tone. Absolute professional.
Maybe something about “leading edge” or “angle of attack” would resonate? 😝
Not France…

• Squandering time and embedding permanent climate damages
• Squandering opportunity to reshape to a clean energy economy, magnifying economic damages
• Without even the arguable selfish benefit of sovereign wealth - exporting profits.
• How is it justifiable by any measure of national interest?

Exasperating to watch so many talented colleagues struggling right now.
If only there were some planning body that could have foreseen and advised on such a project!
Glad that was fixable - was always thus.
Impressive!!
