This annual lecture series is named in honor of our department's founder, Dr. Frances Ingemann. Each year we host a distinguished scholar at the forefront of their area, giving our community a chance to learn more about their research and also share about the linguistics happening here at KU 🌻

Very excited to visit KU this week for the Ingemann Lecture!!
This Illinois team is so so fun!
My favorite pastime is considering Chicago.
I do not agree but will allow it.
I can’t tell if this is affection. Or violence.
We are thrilled to welcome @canaan.bsky.social to the department this fall!!
Yeah this is all department stuff too. I’ve just taken initiative to get rid of the useless stuff everyone is responsible for making sure they have the things they need for their stuff. 🤷🏻♀️
I did a lab clean out of the lab I sort of inherited. There were so many useless cables, so I made a similar box and labeled it “use by June 2026 or garbage”
There are many famous fans I associate with the Patriots, but New Jersey’s own Jon Bon Jovi is … uh … not among them.
If Jeremy Fears wants to avoid comparisons to Grayson Allen, he could consider going a single game without intentionally tripping a player on the opposing team.
A new paper from the lab! This time with wonderful collaborators Charlie Nagle, Mark Amengual, and @casillas.bsky.social. We had a great time working on this piece around how we think bilingual research can and should be done going forward!

The first three. Physics of Music, Cosmology, and pirates.
I took three of your five classes. Must’ve been something in the water in the linguistics department.
There are few things in this world I hate more than Chicago’s hockey team (eg, fascism, the Yankees, icy sidewalks). However, this standing ovation was super classy and made me cry.
What. Was. That?
I literally cannot believe Caleb Williams is a human person.
I love sports so much and would go to basically any game. But it is so absolutely miserable in Chicago right now that there is no way I would agree to be outside for this game.
I am so pleased that my first paper out this year is this multi-coauthored gem with my collaborators in the ROLE Collective. It was so wonderful to serve as a small part of this effort to understand the terms we use as language researchers and their impacts!

Happy new year, friends
Spontaneously went to a jazz show tonight and the JOY in this venue, in this city is unparalleled. I am ending my year full of hope and confidence in my community, which is a lovely way to feel.
The Going to Bed Book has the animals taking a bath and putting on the pajamas before going up to exercise, which just seems like a bad decision.
I’m at the Illinois/Alabama basketball game at the United Center, and I cried so much when they brought the Illinois starting line up out to the iconic Bulls music. Yay sports!
Linguists! Write time Friday is hosted this Friday again by the stalwart Melissa Baese-Berk @m2b2.bsky.social ! 10-12 ET -- come get some work done! www.lsadc.org/ev_calendar_...
Love to see a Ducks win 🦆🦆
Come write with meeeee!
Watching my favorite sport*
(*wondering if I'll die tonight)
I regularly state I want As Much Baseball As Possible, so I apologize to all the Dodgers and Blue Jays fans, as this situation is clearly all my fault.
I have zero rooting interest in this game and STILL feel like I’m about to have a heart attack.
I love Dave Roberts as much as the next Red Sox fan, but I really don’t think they need to interview him in the middle of an inning in Game 7 of the World Series while he’s trying to do his job.
