One quite important thing with any bass though is to try to set it up nicely. The neck and bridge can be adjusted to get the strings nice and close to the fretboard. The closer they are, the more comfortable and easy it will be to play, particularly important for younger players with smaller hands.

Agree with the suggestions above. I've got a very similar ibanez bass to the one posted and it's great. Fender also make a range of amps called rumbles, and you can get a little one for £130 and they are great.
