Agreed, for a sunny country, they do darkness better than most.
The Last Wave title card
With Wake in Fright returning to Edinburgh’s Filmhouse for a week(!) in May, it’s a good time to revisit some other Aussie classics, starting with The Last Wave.
Glad to finally own John Binder’s UFOria from @kinolorber.com, starring Fred Ward as a Waylon Jennings wannabe, alongside UFO obsessed Cindy Williams and dodgy preacher Harry Dean Stanton.
Thanks Erik, glad you enjoyed the book! I’ve not heard of any return to NYC this time around, but nobody tells me nuthin’! There’s been a lot London shooting this time. One day I’ll get to those NYC locations.
Amazing! Did you buy any antiques??
Karen Gillan is getting very shouty in these new photos - looks like they’ve maybe merged Heather and Kate into one character.
Anyone coming along next week? I’ll also be signing copies of my first book on Highlander (the new one is out in September).

Is that the new Arrow edition of SL?
Today was a good one. Went into an interview armed with information gleaned from numerous online sources regarding a subject’s work on a much-loved TV show, believing they started on season two. Turns out they were there for the pilot and helped shape the series. Never trust the internet!
Mr T - and George Clooney - celebrating the opening of Stephen J Cannell’s new office building sometime in the 1980s.
Heading back to March 1979 for tonight’s Rockford Files, Never Send a Boy King to Do a Man's Job.

Forbes Masson also spoke to me about using his Scottish accent in The High Life:
When Alan and I were at drama school the voice teachers would say, ‘If you want to be an actor, you have to lose your Scottishness… we were one of the first years at the Scottish drama school who said ‘No.’
Thinking about how mad The High Life musical is, when I interviewed Forbes Masson for my Hamish Macbeth book, he told me one episode of the High Life was considered ‘a bit second season’ - the musical must be around season 12 it’s so gloriously OTT.
And so much laughter means we miss some lines… they need to be less funny!
Another fan of The High Life musical…

Still recovering from The High Life musical, the funniest and most outrageously entertaining stage show I’ve ever been to, a celebration of both the series and Scottish theatre. I’d love to see this again, but it might be a one and done tour. See it if you can. ✈️
The cast of The High Life: The Musical on stage at the end of the show
Oh Dearie Me! A glorious return for The High Life in Edinburgh tonight as Air Scotia took flight with new songs, old faces and the most Scottish script ever put on a stage. It wasn’t just about the past but also Och Aye, The Noo!
Really enjoyed this, but also: damn, I have to update my to-read list again
