“Ten thousand lifetimes….”…”and I will wait for you in all of them”. 😭

To the real ones who show up when you are down. No questions, just vibes and rolled up sleeves.

Tourism where white people get to “experience” Indigenous ways of living when Indigenous people are still being discriminated against daily is wild and not at all in a good way. It feels like another form of dress up.

If you are only looking for Indigenous peoples to work or support in June, Sept 30 or Nov. , yup that’s performative.

I don't know about you but I'm still obsessed with this cyberpunk art for "Indigenous Voices in Digital Spaces," to be featured by @choicereviews.bsky.social in July! Don't judge a book by its cover but in this case, make an exception.

Artists/Creatives: protect your copyrights. Make sure clients understand that you retain all rights to the art you create unless otherwise stated in an agreement. Make sure they understand the terms of their use of anything you design and or license.

If you commissioned or paid for the licensing of any art in any format, it is a respectful practice to credit the artist when and wherever possible. Stop adhering to extractive colonial practices.

If your work is inspired by or obtained from an elder, pay that elder like you would anyone with expertise in their field. They are knowledge keepers, they deserve more than honorarium. Smarten up and take care of your elders! ekosi.

Why is it so hard for people to remember to credit artists?

If you are sharing their art along with your inspirational quote or random thought of the day or to promote your event or even just to say you love birds…smarten up and credit the artist!

Wish descendians and pretendians would just smarten up ffs! ekosi.

Orgs really need to start making statements about how they won’t support or work with pretendians. Take some accountability. Put those pretendians on notice!

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

The harm done when orgs hire pretendians is extensive and long lasting. Please do the work to ensure opportunities, especially those where they are repping Indigenous issues/culture, are going to authentic community-connected Indigenous people with lived experience.

Trump declaring his plan to “take over” and “own” #Gaza under the justification of it being full of “death and destruction,” while sitting cordially beside the culprit war criminal whose U.S.-backed military destroyed Gaza is as disgusting as it is unsurprising. The Onion headline writes itself.

Woodland art is a cultural art, full of medicine, teachings and the stories of our peoples. We are visual storytellers, painting our past, present and future. ~ @breeisland.bsky.social
