Very impressed by discussion, then went to their website. Family-run (woman-owned, LGBTQ+), touts training of (largely Hispanic) crew (featuring safety), equipment designed to reduce yard damage, etc. Upfront on cost options. Nice ending to an otherwise-sh**-show, esp. in this very-red town. 2/2
So in our crazy storms & flooding, we lost 2 50-ft spruces (blown down & shallow roots uprooted). We got a tree guy in today, they'll take those 2 plus 3 other dead ones. It's a LOT of $, but we won the lottery on the business doing the work: nice owner who runs an excellent estimate process, 1/2
It's spring storm season in the Midwest, & we had a doozy late last night. This afternoon's storm is supposed to be worse, as it's unseasonably warm & very humid. Spent early morning picking up trash from overturned cans (garbage day) & lots of small sticks. Yards are squishy from all of the rain.

If anyone is free at 3pm EDT on April 24 and wants to hear some works-in-progress talks about Salieri reception history, the Encounters with Eighteenth-Century Music series has you covered!

TCM is showing Ballet Mecanique right now, in case you haven’t seen it. More important silents to follow.
I LOVE her music! Enjoy!
Pope Leo on an airplane, accepting a gift of a White Sox bat from a journalist.
I'm assuming this photo will now generate more memes than before. I'm not Catholic, but am becoming a big Pope Leo fan.
I’m offering a lightly used set of regalia in UC Berkeley colors to a junior faculty member, preference for a mom and 1st gen scholar. DM me your details— I’ll ship for free.
Watching the landing and holding my breath. In the Apollo years we’d not had in-flight disasters, but now we watch and hope now. We needed this good news.
Good news! We're waiting for this to happen in Arrowhead district. I think we'll be waiting for a long time, but at least the WISRed guy didn't defeat the incumbent in Hartland-Lakeside district. Baby steps, I guess.
Lots of liberals are here (we moved here from Walworth Co a while back). We decided that despite the political climate, the library system is great, the land is beautiful and Waukesha has a lot to offer (history, schools, arts, stores, recreation, healthcare). And it's becoming purpler every year.
So sorry, Carrie. ❤️ My things are distractions mostly mentioned here: walks, listening to beloved music (bonus to pick one that helps provide a much-needed cry), a long drive, gardening, playing music, etc. As others have noted, the sun will eventually come back out but times like these are so hard.
Brewers game
RJ is the worst of us in WI.
Old fridge in house when we moved in died. New fridges cost a freaking fortune. Glad we live fairly simply.
I know the world is exploding, but am taking comfort listening to 2 experienced workmen removing the old fridge & installing the new. Calm, on task, pleasant as can be. Normal is good. Mundane is good.
Good assessment of the event at this game, as well as in general in women's sports.
White male privilege is Geno getting to disrepect a Black woman peer on national television as his team lost and have sports media run cover for him. #Misogynoir is Dawn getting critiqued for defending herself and her team from said abuse, all while knowing she could never behave the same way.
That was us yesterday. Bad storms in the evening and we're back in the 40s today. Hoping you won't get the bad storms part.

I retired in 2018 and I think the emails finally stopped in 2022.
Gotta love spring in the Midwest!
It seemed sort of existential, but I thought I'd reply. Do you folks have this cold rain today? Our weather is miserable today.
and you?
My bro just texted me from FL (has ensemble at Disney this week)--they were able to see the launch. Pretty cool for a bunch of kiddos from Ohio.
And suddenly I'm a 2nd-grader watching an Apollo rocket taking off from Cape Kennedy on the black and white tv the teacher rolled into the room on a cart. We saw these a lot when I was a kid, using less computer power that's in my cellphone (or so I've heard). Godspeed, Orion!
