maybe today, the day that an idolized leader of a labour rights movement got exposed as a rapist, we could remember that predatory behaviour is not limited to people we disagree with politically & characterizing sexual predation as unique or inherent to foreign conservative countries is stupid

also: the dynamics of American racism structured around skin colour & a white/Black dichotomy are so baked into US society that the only way many Americans can conceive of & denounce Israeli racism is by reframing it in ways that make no sense in the context of the actual oppression of Palestinians

What folks miss about these takes is that they aren't just edgy dunks on imperialism, they're also an underhanded swipe at all of anti-authoritarianism and in a lot of ways that's the real point. The only real audience for this is other radicals and ultimately that's who this is actually aimed at.
More or less my thesis re: "authoritarianism" as a concept is a fascist tool used to create an enemy out of any nation you want. Its inherently vibes based and unfalsifiable. Literally the only thing it means is "those people are evil and it's okay to kill them."
JFC, are we really doing "no such thing as authoritarianism" discourse again? Do I need to remind people how grotesque and monstrous that got last time?
Add all this to the big list of things that was basically a staple of radicalism when I was a kid but is now widely recognized (correctly, imho) as deeply fucking reactionary.
Antisemitism is a plague in so many spaces and there’s no point denying it. Just because the pro-Israel world makes shit up in their cynical attempt to smear opposition to Israel it doesn’t mean that there aren’t also loads of people who use anti-Zionism to spread antisemitic bullshit. Both are true
Twitter Screenshot: "A friend in LA told me that people are reporting pro-war Iranians to ICE and I laughed....not proud of it... but frankly I'm still laughing"
Lot of it is about upholding power structures, yes, but it's also about how authoritarians of all stripes salivate over the idea of a phone number they can call to bring hell down on their personal enemies.
I’ve also written about how notable leftists, including Noam Chomsky and Michael Parenti, have gone great lengths to deny the Bosnian genocide, and how this act of denial creates an opportunity for future Tarrants to justify acts of white supremacist murder.
Alleged murder of Masood Masjoody by two known iranian monarchists as well as killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar by Hindutva/India-aligned Bishnoi network should be alarming to everyone.
What happens in so-called diasporas is a matter of global fascism, not siloed multicultural immigrant politics.
this is very, very bad. the administration will use this guilty verdict to help “prove” there is a terrorist antifa cell, which they’ll use to build up their fictitious international antifa organization they’ll declare an FTO.
Reading thru Platner discourse it's clear that many still can't imagine that a candidate on "our side" would be involved with any of "that".
Would just like to remind everyone, again, of Alfred's sister, the nice hippy lady who ran multiple times for the Canadian Green Party...
Congress of the United States letterhead Washington, DC 20513 March 11, 2026 Todd Lyons Acting Director U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement 500 12th Street SW Honorable Kristi Noem Secretary U.S. Department of Homeland Security 2707 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE Secretary Noem and Acting Director Lyons: We are writing to express concern regarding the $313.4 million contract awarded to Garda World Federal Services LLC (GardaWorld) by the Department of Homeland Security to renovate a commercial warehouse into an immigration detention facility in Surprise, AZ. According to publicly available data on USAspending.gov, the contract was awarded to "procure the renovation of existing, ICE-owned permanent structure in Surprise, AZ to serve as a processing and detention facility and provide all necessary wraparound services for operation of the facility'" This was done without any local input or the slightest concern for the surrounding community. The decision to convert a warehouse not designed or zoned for human habitation into a large-scale detention facility on an expedited basis raises profound questions about contractor qualifications, concern for human health and safety, and the humane treatment of individuals who will be held there. We are greatly concerned by reporting that GardaWorld, a security contractor, has never been directly contracted to oversee any detention facility but nevertheless has been awarded this significant contract. Furthermore, the contract was awarded through a Department of Defense procurement system, bypassing a normal bidding process that would have ensured community buy-in and necessary due diligence. These facts raise many questions.
Accordingly, we request written responses to each of the following questions no later than fifteen (15) business days from receipt of this letter. 1. What market research was conducted to determine whether other qualified contractors could have met the government's requirements for this facility? Why was a competitive procurement process not deemed feasible or appropriate, and who made that decision? 2. Provide a full accounting of the total contract value, a cost breakdown by line item, and any ceiling on expenditures, along with a written explanation of how the government determined that GardaWorld's pricing represents fair and reasonable value to taxpayers. 3. What performance standards, contractual milestones, and penalty provisions has DHS built into the Garda World contract to ensure accountability for compliance with detention standards? 4. What DHS or ICE components will have direct oversight responsibility for GardaWorld's performance, and what is the oversight staffing plan for a 1,500-bed operation? 5. Does GardaWorld intend to subcontract any portion of the construction, staffing, medical services, or facility management? If so, were those subcontractors competitively selected, and what visibility does DHS have into subcontractor qualifications and costs? 6. What DHS components will operate the facility day-to-day, and to what extent will operations be conducted directly by the federal government versus GardaWorld or other private contractors? Page 2 7.Provide the anticipated operational start date and planned staffing model, including the ratio of federal employees to contractor personnel. 8. What contingency plans does DHS have in place should detention numbers exceed the facility's planned capacity? 9. Will detainees be transported to and from the facility by federal personnel or GardaWorld? What coordination agreements are being contemplated with local agencies, and will those agreements impose any costs on local governments? 10. What structural, mechanical, and code-compliance assessments have been conducted on the warehouse to determine its suitability for use as a human detention facility? Please provide all documentation of such assessments. 11. How will the facility meet applicable federal, state, and local building codes, fire codes, and health and safety standards- including those established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), OSHA, and the American Correctional Association (ACA) as well as ICE's own Performance-Based National Detention Standards (PBNDS)? 12. What provisions will be made for adequate ventilation, temperature regulation, potable water, sanitation, and medical care? Given that Arizona warehouses routinely reach life-threatening internal temperatures during summer months, what specific heat mitigation systems will be installed, and what performance standards must they meet before any detainees are housed at the facility?

Given that Arizona warehouses routinely reach life-threatening internal temperatures during summer months, what specific heat mitigation systems will be installed, and what performance standards must they meet before any detainees are housed at the facility? 13. Identify the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) pathway DHS used for this project, including whether DHS prepared an environmental assessment or environmental impact statement, or relied on a categorical exclusion. Provide the formal determination and all supporting documentation. 15. What analysis was conducted regarding the facility's proximity to surrounding residential neighborhoods, schools, and other sensitive land uses? 16. What traffic impact analyses have been conducted, and what mitigation measures are planned for the surrounding community? 17. How does DHS plan to ensure adequate access to emergency medical services, fire protection, and law enforcement support without straining existing local resources? Will any costs associated with increased local service demands be paid by DHS or GardaWorld rather than local taxpayers? Thank you for your attention to this matter. The communities surrounding the Surprise facility deserve absolute transparency. Sincerely, Greg Stanton Member of Congress Yassamin Ansari Member of Congress Adelta S. Grijalva Member of Congress
Yesterday, AZ Dem. Representatives sent another letter to ICE & DHS with a list of questions and expressing concern about the contract with GardaWorld since the industrial warehouse is not designed for human habitation and “Arizona warehouses routinely reach life-threatening internal temperatures.”
What are you supposed to do when this describes most of the people you know?

GardaWorld headquarters facade vandalized with red paint and acid
FUCK ICE graffiti across the door of a residence
Red paint and a tag spelling "Jean-Cul Landry" on a ground floor condo
On International Women's Day, the new group Witches Against Power (WAP) carried out coordinated actions against ICE contractor GardaWorld, vandalizing their Montreal headquarters plus the residences of two board members.
Tomorrow is March 8, International Women's Day.
In 1910, Clara Zetkin proposed this event at an international women’s conference at Folkets Hus, headquarters of the Danish labor movement.
That building later became the historic autonomous social center Ungdomshuset.

There is a projector now outside the MDC in Los Angeles. DHS has come out multiple times now to try and secure portions of the fence
Realistically tho... I really hope that if I ever had the chance to appear on TV at the white house I'd have the courage to show up Elon levels of blasted.
Look, I'm the last guy in the fuckin' world with any right to judge a dude for showing up to work high, but this is the kind of behaviour that ruins it for the rest of us.
Isn't it just the universal language of the aging former rock star?
One of the bleak parts of Trump's imperialism is that really significant portions of the left were sold a lie that there was an anti-imperialist bloc out there to fight the US and nah man the CCP would rather rake in money from selling shit to the US than do anything
Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
Feel like anyone who expected anything else fundamentally misunderstood what Carney was selling.
very entertained by the apparent assertion that a logo on a t-shirt worn during a podcast interview is clear and conclusive evidence of someone’s political beliefs but a symbol that he decided to get permanently inked into his flesh is not a relevant concern.
FWIW I think it's cool and rad to attempt to push the boundaries of the stale conventions of top-40 "rock", but if that's your game you don't get to lament other people doing the same, or the fact that music went on to evolve past the stale conventions of top-40 rock from three decades ago.
Bro, you personally, very publicly, decided to stop playing rock. You literally announced plans to "reconfigure the focus and get away from the classic guitars-bass-drum rock format" and the whole project fell apart.
Did the CIA buy you those drum machines?

If you keep reading, it actually somehow keeps getting worse.
It's huuuuge in the diaspora communities. We have a bunch of them here.
