In this installation, a curved screen becomes an evocative lightshow of ever-changing shapes, colours, and shadows, created through reflection and refraction of light. While the mind perceives solid forms and architectural structures, the viewer knows they’re witnessing only fleeting projections.

At the centre of ‘Overdeepening’ (2018), commissioned by Amorepacific Museum of Art, Seoul, are two half-rings that appear as full rings when completed by their reflections. The resulting illusory rings seem to traverse the reflective surfaces of the mirror and the pond.

"In 'The waterfall series', Eliasson altered the colour of each picture in order to emphasise the fact that each waterfall is different. The result is almost nineteenth-century in character, calling to mind old postcards from exotic locations", writes Matthew Drutt in 2004.

Covering the gallery wall like a textured tapestry, 'Moss Wall’ (1994) is composed of reindeer moss, a lichen native to northern latitudes. When dry, it shrinks and fades; when watered, it expands and releases an earthy, pungent scent.
The work is on view at @aucklandartgallery until March 23.

Upon entering Auckland Art Gallery, visitors encounter ‘Under the weather’ (2022). As they move, the screen flickers with a shifting moiré pattern. Like ‘Beauty' (1993), the experience is shaped by perspective.
This artwork is now part of 'Your curious journey’ at @aucklandartgallery.

These two photographs are part of Olafur’s interest in producing a visual archive of different locations and their changing conditions. The images capture the same portion of a landscape exposed to contrasting weather phenomena.
‘Untitled’, 2002, is at Repetto Gallery, Lugano, until April 11.
