I spent my Local News Day talking to past and present employees of the Roseburg News Review about the closure of that paper, announced yesterday.

I can't emphasize enough how much local news is becoming a thing of the past.

Roseburg’s newspaper will stop printing after 159 years, shutter the newsroom The Douglas County publication is the latest casualty in the long decline of local Oregon news.

Horribly depressing news on the eve of Local News Day. The News-Review has had important local reporting on ICE offices, airport funding and city homelessness policies in recent weeks that statewide outlets based 100+ miles away can’t replace.

It takes the length of the audio to 2x the length of the audio, so a 15 min interview is 15 to 30 mins. I type during interviews so sometimes it’s not necessary. But I like listening back bc I catch subtext, tone shifts or other things I missed during the conversation or wouldn’t see in a transcript

good thing Google is letting AI rewrite story headlines to "improve" them, that definitely won't compound with this existing problem
