It’d be one thing if they’d never made any effort. But they get your hopes up at first, then slowly stop respecting you behind your back, until it starts slipping out in front of you, and then eventually all effort to hide their intolerance vanishes altogether. It’s just disheartening.

The closest I’ve come to understanding it is just seeing it as, despite what they say, yes they are intolerant of the things you are- you’re just the exception, and for the sole purpose of them hoping that eventually you’ll “change your mind”. Dealing with this from blood & in-law family is a bummer
