Boulevard Sébastopol in Paris 2026 update : about 1 cyclist per second on average in the video.

I’m reminded of some parts of the #SFBayTrail. It’s one thing to build the bike infra, but maintaining it over time is what counts. City of Richmond is pretty responsive to problem reports. Contra Costa County … not so much.
Based on my experience, it seems work to be done in the public ROW has to be reviewed by Public Works. When I inquired about why it was taking so long to get my permit, I was told it was still in Zoning Review. I remember thinking “Zoning? WTH? It’s a public sidewalk!” But hey, that’s me.
I have experience requesting a permit for replacing a sidewalk in the public ROW. It was a bit onerous and took several weeks.
Have you considered filing a 311 report? Those get looked at and they hang around until they are resolved in one way or another.
This was timely because for the first time in my life, I'm friends with a crow. He?she? Began flying near me while walking our dog. At first, I thought it was coincidence, but then it followed me home. It perches on the birdbath in our yard & watches me through the window. I find it very calming.
So I was billed for import duties and submitted payment directly to FedEx or DHL or UPS, but I can’t request a refund because I’m not the importer of record. Riiiight.
If this is winning, why is it consumers are losing?
Governor Tim Walz — "We are sick of this. A weak, reckless, Idiotic president just threw us into a war nobody asked for. No threat existed. No objectives were set. No exit plan exists. This is pure fascism." #cdnpoli
Lead Belly was the mid-century Kendrick Lamar.
He coined the term "woke" in 1938 in his song Scottsboro Boys, about Black Americans in Alabama being falsely accused of rape.
He was saying stay alert, stay awake to oppression, and be careful out there in racist America.

The beating will continue until morale improves?
Many people are asking, so here’s my “why.”
Thank you, Kansas Democrats, for an inspiring Friday evening together.
This report is problematic.
Was the car wearing a helmet? Of course not, cars don’t have agency, drivers do.
Was the car driver wearing a helmet? What a silly question?
Are we to infer the lack of helmet use implies recklessness or somehow deserving a collision & related injuries?
Do better.
Another senseless traffic death.
Paralympics champion Dory Selinger, who lost a leg in 1993 when a group he was riding with struck intentionally by a driver, was killed yesterday while riding his bike.

My version: The worst part of my bike ride is car-brain. It makes everything worse - street design, driver behavior, rider experience.
A related point I like to make: The act of riding a bike is inherently very safe. The danger comes from cars.
Dusty, noisy, windswept boarding area for AC & GG transit busses and the RSR Bike Shuttle. No water, no restrooms, no place to sit.
RSR Bike Shuttle van with trailer. Gas mileage just doesn’t pencil out with climate change.
View from inside the shuttle, stuck in traffic. What are we even doing here? This bridge needs a replacement with priority for light rail, busses, emergency vehicles, and bikes.
More thoughts about my RSR Bridge Bike Shuttle experience.
I was the sole passenger, so very HIGH carbon loading.
Boarding area, by noisy on/off ramps, no seating or H20. Public transit should be uncomfortable, expen$ive, & inconvenient?
Start thinking about a RSR bridge replacement … NOW.
This view of Bolinas Bay, seen from Panoramic Highway, all achieved by bike.
View of the San Francisco and Oakland skylines as seen from the Mt. Tam area. All achieved by bike.
Bike ride yesterday w/ friends up Mt. Tam & one of them was on an e-bike. An eye-opener for me.
1) e-bikes help people w/ limitations to ride places they otherwise couldn’t
2) just having an e-bike in our group helped others tackle all the hills
3) e-bikes are game-changes for local transpo, too
RSR shuttle arrived and I'm the only passenger, so that's progress. Now we're stuck in a traffic jam caused by Caltrans ... wait for it ... moving the bike lane barrier back into place. 🤷🏻♂️
Empty Bus Stop at Pt. Richmond

Screenshot of map with no shuttle location.
1st time using bike shuttle across the RSR Bridge & it's not my lucky day. The live tracking of the shuttle is not working. Another cyclist was waiting & she called the contractor who said there's a problem with the trailer. So she took the last the last bike slot on the 580 bus, so I'm waiting.
Read this if you're trying to understand how a city that is supposedly so progressive ( Berkeley) can be so struck in the past.
Nevertheless, things finally look promising for people who walk and cycle in this city.
The top image, in black and white, shows parked cars. The bottom image shows the modern-day version with trees lining the square, outdoor café seating, cyclists riding past, and no cars

I love this site! Totally helped me affirm that switching to a Quick Haul from a Yuba Mundo was right for me! Height, length, and style all help make my Tern perfect! bikes.louiseveillard.com?bikes=tern-q...
Photo of Dr. Oz, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid, with a kind of goofy smirk next to the slogan “Stay Healthy with Dr. Oz."
Don’t get me wrong, Medicare is a great resource for retirees like me, but the emails with the picture of the goofy, narcissistic, former talk-show host Dr. Oz are really repugnant.
Lived in SLO, 2015 for 14 months, cycled a lot & it was dicey. My wife cycled once to Whole Foods, got home & she said "Never again." Asked city to paint a xwalk on South St. for safer access to Meadow Park. They refused. Didn't want us to get hurt "exercising our ROW." Lots of improvement needed.

Another great turn of phrase from @billmckibben.bsky.social “we want energy from heaven, not from hell”
The average grade of Macalla Road may be 14%, but parts of it are close to a 20% grade, according to my cycle computer. A new path on Treasure Island Road is going to be so much better.
Yes. A coyote passed in front of our house just off Solano on a Sunday 2 PM. Caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye while inside and thought "That 'dog' was moving like a wild animal." Went onto the front porch to see it trotting down toward Thousand Oaks school. It looked very healthy.
20+ years ago, started biking w/ BART to get to work. Short ride to BART, get off near the airport, 5 mile ride to work.
Trip home delayed by BART problems several times. Waiting at Fruitvale,💡: “I could have ridden home by now!"
So I started riding the whole way round trip & never looked back.
Happy to see that Ms. Rumbelow has finally achieved her own satori - “I may as well take the bus.”
Indeed!
