A new documentary on PBS shows what it's like to care for adult family members and recounts the history of caregiving policy in the U.S., revealing why those caring for family are often on their own.

I am reminded again that the speed of technological advancement has outpaced that of ethics and values.
Flock âis building a product that will use people lookup tools, data brokers, and data breaches to âjump from LPR [license plate reader] to person,â allowing police to much more easily identify and track the movements of specific people around the country without a warrant or court orderâŚâ
In the meeting audio obtained by 404 Media, the Flock employee described the sorts of information the company will supplement ALPR data with. The first is data breaches. One example the employee pointed to was a 2021 data breach impacting users of Park Mobile, an app that allows users to pay for parking without physically going to the parking meter or in some lots where meters no longer exist. That data included license plate numbers with their ownersâ associated email addresses, phone numbers, and in some cases mailing addresses. With regards to Flock, âNova ingests that and is able to use that to contextualize the data. So we're now able to make that cognitive leap from LPR to person,â the employee said.

Help, I keep buying more books before I finish reading the books I already have! Also, I tend to read multiple books at a time because I need âbrain candyâ too while I read heavy nonfiction. This is out of control. #booksky
Yes! That too.
I noticed mine said it was currently raining when it wasnât yesterday. And it seems the forecast tends to be super inaccurate any longer than 2 days out.
I've definitely noticed that weather forecasts aren't as accurate as they were 6 months ago and it's only gonna get worse from here.
This is horrible.
I need another rage room trip, just in case. Proactive self-care.

Wilmer only found out his son had been detained after receiving a phone call on March 15 from his nephew, Luis, who lives with them. That morning was their last time together; they had gone around the corner to do their laundry. Later that day, Wilmer said that his son met with a friend to get help with some errands at the American Red Cross. He learned this from Luis, who looked at the situation from inside the apartment: when his son was on his way back, just steps from his home when ICE agents stopped him. âThe officers grabbed him and two other boys right at the entrance to our building. One said, âNo, heâs not the one,â like they were looking for someone else. But the other said, âTake him anyway.'â That moment marked the beginning of Wilmerâs search for answers â answers heâs still waiting for.
One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind.
An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one."
The other said, "Take him anyway."
So they did.
America doesnât know how to function without free/cheap labor cuz it never intended to be without slaves.
i have argued before that MAGA is recapitulating antebellum pro-slavery ideas about citizenship and bodily autonomy. one thing i am also thinking about, when it comes to the rendition of people to a foreign gulag, is the way it is reminiscent of the kidnapping of free blacks for sale into slavery

"We have a massive sprawling low-wage service sector. You could make that into the middle class if you really wanted to, but I donât think we want to. I think we prefer to lament about the lost past, but it cost a lot to destroy the future."
