Doki Doki Literature Club is a widely celebrated piece of videogame art, discusses deeply difficult topics in sincere and meaningful ways, and Google Play needs to revert the removal of the game immediately.
We handle a lot of NES prototypes around here, so trust us when we say this one is weird. Join VGHF Founder Frank Cifaldi for a look at this prototype version of Punch-Out!! for the Nintendo Entertainment System: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T5A...

Once a year I remind you of all the Easter Eggs that have been found in games that predate Atari Adventure.

This is your fault.

That's twice now where we've seen a Mario movie where @rainknight.bsky.social will have notes that make me say 'dang, Illumination needs to get her in the writer's room.'
today it took all of my willpower not to call out a major indie game curator account over the following:
i am. SO tired of indie games always being painted as "ACTUALLY FUN" alternatives to "MODERN AAAA SLOP"
they're their own games dude! let them speak! stop projecting petty gamer rage onto them!
I'm looking to fill ~40ish hours per month in my schedule, until the fall. (Or beyond, for the right opportunity.)
Can do game design (especially the very technical kind), game writing, analytics, localization.

If you love metroidvanias or games that capture that classic NES platformer magic, this one's for you. Please RT to help spread the word! 🙌🩷
People don't understand how expensive localization is when done right. For any one new language in Demonschool we would have to sell 1,500 new, full-price copies in that target language *just to make the money back.* you can work with cheaper agencies but that usually means poorly paid labor.
Longtime college friend of mine, Mike Prinke, was among those laid off at Epic Games: he has been fighting terminal brain cancer, and now he, his wife, and kid, have no income or health insurance.
Sharing here in hopes it can reach the right people on their behalf.

So, releasing a videogame on Steam in 2026 isn't really just about making the game itself and trying to get games media to cover it. It involves an entire mountain of arcane systems and social norms you have to navigate, social systems you need to engage with, that only care about the engagement and not the content of said engagement and because it is so opaque, there's no way of knowing if your poor sales are because you made a mistake, or because you were just unlucky. But, since we've all been turned into financial actors and the "Indiegames community" has been turned into a marketing phrase, we don't see other developers as potential allies in navigating this system. They are our enemies. Flooding Steam with their games, playing the algorithms, exploiting loopholes, not playing fair at a game that no one understands the rules of.

It's been offline for a couple of months due to hosting issues, but the Video Game Soda Machine Project archive is back online again. If you've ever wanted to browse through more than 3,000 screenshots of soda machines from video games dating back as far as 1983, this is the site for you.
Do some work for the UNFAIR FLIPS dev
YEP. YEP YEP YEP YEP.
This is it 100% folks. Game dev is a long process and you'll have new ideas along the way that you just have to shelf and go "that's cool, maybe next game". The secret to making games efficiently is to make decisions early and be assertive about them. Then you make the game.
That is 100% understandable. It's pretty bizarre!
The version of SimCity I grew up with apart from the SNES game. LGR finally covering it is great, more people need to know about this weird take on the series.
