For all us Nigel Kneale enthusiasts, today is a very important day.
It’s the day we remind you that Nigel Kneale was born on 28 April. Not today.

"Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets. And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us…"

A fart rune: a weird mark on a bit of paper. It looks a bit like someone standing behind a table, or an alien spaceship, or a large T shape behind/in front of a horizontal line, and two diagonal downward strokes at either end, like table legs
It’s April 10, and that can only mean one thing. YES, THAT’S RIGHT! It’s the 370th anniversary of Jón Jónsson and his son Jón Jónsson being burnt at the stake in Iceland for attacking a priest (called Jón, obviously) with witchcraft and for casting fart spells on a girl using fart runes 🧵
RIP, il magnifico* Mario Adorf (1930-2026) (*was actually German, born in Switzerland, appeared in films by Fassbinder, Schlöndorff, Wilder, Peckinpah, Siodmak, Chabrol etc but I shall chiefly remember him from his Italian films for Corbucci, Argento, Di Leo, Lado et al)

Vale Paul Seed, actor who moved behind the camera. None of the obits mention his time in the 70s as a member of Manchester Library Theatre's regular company, so I will. A charismatic and memorable performer who made a top rank director.

WHEN THE MOON
HAS A MARK
THAT IS LAVA AND DARK
THAT'S A MARE 🎶
At St. Edith's, Eaton under Heywood, there is the most wonderful apotropaic marking I've seen. The "W" or "VV" symbol, linked to the Virgin Mary, was believed to invoke her protection. Post-Reformation, it remained a powerful apotropaic sign.

Currently watching William Castle produced and Richard Matheson created TV horror anthology Ghost Story (retitled mid season as Circle of Fear) with scripts by Jimmy Sangster, Robert Bloch and D C Fontana.
Watched The Birthday (2004). Best to go in blind and stay with it. A film of two halves, Just as it gets tedious the remarkable ending kicks in. Corey Feldman gives a career best performance, though he does seem to be channeling Peter Falk. Worth a visit.

What’s wrong, babe? You’ve hardly touched your Easter stigmata cookies.
