On 4/28, we're having a Transit Tuesday Talk on federal transit policy! This year, Congress must "re-authorize" our transportation funding, writing the rules on how we fund public transit and rail. We're hoping for some reform!

MDOT is considering bus lanes on Washtenaw Ave in Ann Arbor!!! This would be huge for all of Washtenaw Co., as TheRide's 4/104 are the most frequent buses in SEMI.
Come to the open house on the 16th and submit your comments to MDOT for bus lanes!

Our friends at Strong Towns Detroit just published an op-ed in Planet Detroit, calling for zoning reform as a way to reduce our climate emissions in Detroit.
Give it a read!

DDOT just graduated 52 drivers out of training - the largest single class in department history! This brings the total number of drivers in the City to about 550; which will help us in restoring DDOT service to pre-COVID levels!
HEADS UP:
We'll be in Dearborn tonight with Strong Towns Dearborn to discuss the Wayne countywide transit expansion plan, to meet anyone interested in transit, and to discuss what we can do!

It is a practical step toward strengthening connections across communities so residents, workers, students, and employers can reach opportunity without unnecessary barriers.”
Read the full piece here:
The proposal on the August ballot ensures every community in Wayne County has access to reliable, coordinated transit, creating a system that reflects how people actually live and move.
The result is a system with gaps that make it harder for residents to reach jobs, education, health care and everyday destinations.
People do not live, work and shop in silos, yet our transit system often operates as if they do.
Today, some communities participate in regional transit service while others opt out.
Read an excerpt from Tiffany Gunter’s commentary piece for Crain’s: “Wayne County is home to 43 communities. Each has its own character, priorities and economic strengths. But our economy does not stop at city limits.
UPDATE: If you're joining us in Wyandotte tonight, we're meeting at the Little Pierogi and Crepe Shop, still in downtown Wyandotte. See you at 6!

URGENT: Rally to Double DDOT funding Monday evening! This year, Mayor Sheffield is proposing a $29 million total budget increase for DDOT. This won’t get us all the way to “doubling DDOT” this year, but it’s a huge step in the right direction. But we need to remind City Council that the work doesn’t stop here. We need to keep our eyes on the prize - doubling DDOT by 2030 - and ensure we keep ramping up funding for DDOT in the years to come. Join us at 4pm at the Spirit of Detroit for a rally to Double DDOT! We’ll then head to the budget hearing at 5pm to tell Council: Don’t decrease funding for DDOT, keep growing our service!
