of the blue color pencils.
it was terrible but we do what we have to do #backthebluecolorpencils

I do not need an AI based seminar/PD/coach to talk to me about how to better reach students
Because it doesnât. make. sense.
I donât need training on how to best use AI in my classroom.
I need people ABOVE ME to recognize that there are problems in the school system that arenât technological

THE AFT CELEBRATES TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK When our students are part of experiences that pique their interests, involve their daily lives and prepare them for what comes after high school, the whole community benefits. âClare Berke journalism teacher, Washington Teachers' Union
THE AFT CELEBRATES TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK School staff make a huge difference in the lives of our students and in our communities. But too often we do not get the support we need. We can work miracles, but we cannot keep it up without decent pay, manageable working conditions and the resources our students need to learn. âGemayel Keyes, middle grades special education teacher and a member of the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers
THE AFT CELEBRATES TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK I had one student walk into a print shop with a quinceañera invitation she'd designed for her cousin's 15th birthday, and the print shop owner asked her who had designed it. When she told him she'd done it herself [at school], he offered her a job at his shop. That's why I'm here. âLetecia Miller, graphic design teacher and chair of the United Teachers Los Angeles CTE Committee
THE AFT CELEBRATES TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK I will keep speaking out. I will keep teaching. Because my students deserve more than watered-down history. They deserve the truth. âRenee O'Connor, African American history teacher and a member of United Teachers of Dade (Florida)

Apples and kind words are nice, but fully funded schools and respect are better. If you truly appreciate teachers, contact your legislators. Demand real support for public ed and vote for pro-education candidates. Support your local teachersâ union. #teacherappreciationweek
âSchool employees asked for identification. When staff tried to take information down, agents pocketed their IDs and refused to allow staff to write down names and badge numbers.â
In an executive order issued Tuesday, President Trump took direct aim at state laws that support environmental justice, greenhouse gas emissions or that disincentivize carbon pollution.

An Idaho teacher was told by her principal to take down an "Everyone is Welcome Here" poster in her classroom. It's a symptom of President Trump's crackdown on discussions of inclusivity in schools.
President Trump's new executive order ends collective bargaining for wide swaths of federal employees, as part of his broader campaign to reshape the government's workforce. Unions are vowing to sue.
Federal agents have been filmed wearing masks while making arrests in public. When is it legal for police and the public to conceal their faces in an age of digital facial recognition and doxxing?
Eliminating the Department of Education means rolling back student protections, gutting school funding, and leaving teachers and families struggling. Trump wants to destroy public schools for billionaire handouts. We must fight back. #Opposition

ICYMI: AFT sued the Department of Education Wednesday over the removal online of income-driven repayment (IDR) student loan applications. IDR plans are the only way for public service workers to benefit from PSLFâa critical lifeline for public service workers across the country.
-if these few items sound like they will cost too much extra money, why should education be cheap* to you?
*the cost is the environmental impact for the next coming generations we are teaching
-If staff or student evaluations are feeling generic, maybe revisting a thesaurus can help or even getting a (human) outsider to help
-If students are using AI to learn other languages (coughDUOLINGOcough), is there a way that it can be used more for supplementation or in class âchallengesâ compared to being the foundation of the learning
- If teachers are using AI to help with grading papers (not just checking for plagiarism) then we should look at why that grading load is so high
-If the school play needs flyers or the volleyball team wants to advertise a bake sale, whatâs stop them from getting a student artist to do it
School districts need to have an AI committee of sorts to actually establish what is and isnât acceptable for students/schools/staff to do when it comes to AI technologies.
6th grader: âHappy Birthday, Mx. Fosterâ
Itâs not my birthday today.
âAre you sure?â
Yes. Why would I not know when my own birthday is?
(but really, how do I reply to this)

âAn unelected billionaire is now bulldozing the research arm of the Department of Education,â Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., said. âCutting off these investments after the contract has already been inked is the definition of wasteful.â
