When parents handle all those things for you for 18 years, it acclimates you to this very unrealistic lifestyle. When you go from handling NONE of your personal affairs, to handling ALL of them, it's overwhelming. It feels unfair, because it IS unfair. It's setting someone up for failure.

I appreciate that my parents raised me like I was going to be single and alone forever.
I always had chores, dusting, dishes, yardwork. When I was old enough, Mom went back to work, and I started making my own dinner most nights. By High School, I was expected to do my own laundry, too.

Did this years ago. It was a lot of work and was not even close to being worth it. It changed nothing about the quality of my life, it neither brought me more attention nor took it away. It was a very underwhelming experience.

I did that (got down to 10% bodyfat) years ago, one of those "I wonder if I can do it?" personal challenges. It scared my husband, but otherwise nothing else changed. So I let it go.
It was fun to find out what I could do, but I saw no reason to keep it.

I did that for a raffle ticket at a work party.

Freshman year there was a dorm blood drive. One of my dorm neighbors volunteered and thought it would be funny to berate people for walking by without donating.
I had to explain that there's a bunch of people who are not allowed to donate, like people who just got tattoos, or other private reasons.
