well the jury is out. my vote is for mumbar dolması (stuffed intestines) or şırdan (stuffed lamb stomach). although when i used to eat meat, i loved kokoreç (grilled lamb intestines wrapped around offal). i think it's the boiled texture and the visual that makes those two yucky.

Tbh I've only seen the second hand discourse that this actually is an ongoing discourse in academia but never seen actual evidence of it happening. I always suspect it must be a projection or something.
I guess so but I turned it down tbh so idk
oh i know the answer to that!
😭
Preemptive and defensive writing practices work against reading pleasure but might be what makes the reading possible in the first place lol
Huh interesting! I feel that most readers read papers in such a half-assed way that anything that's not repeated risks being overlooked. So I think it's often necessary. But sometimes also those phrases are included in response to reviewers who ask questions that are already answered in the paper.
I thought this was some weird elevator button thingy until I read the alt text 😂
idk maybe college students need to be loved, respected, properly fed, empowered, and supported instead of offended. many other possibilities. though granted, that still might shock them.
What function did ~100k-year-old engravings from Blombos Cave & Diepkloof serve? Decoration, identity marking, proto-writing? osf.io/preprints/ps... uses transmission chains + cognitive experiments to find out & help answering one of the hardest questions in cognitive archaeology. long thread! 1/
Super interesting reading the definitions for the candidate epistemic virtues for science inquiry
(have narrowed my picks but still ranking them...& not sure when this survey closes...)
We hadn't set a closing date yet so go ahead and post when you've ranked. Thanks for taking it!
Over pasta, over rice, over toast... I love it.
It's always better when you have multiple types of greens. Carrot tops, beet and radish greens, dandelions, and particularly nettle leaves if you happen to have any. Yum!
Aegean food is something special but of course I'd say that lol
There's a version of this where the eggs are added right in too. I like them together but separate. And yes to eggs for dinner!!
👀 i'm not saying another word.
for another 5-10 min over low heat. I add a little bit of lemon juice to taste.
Hash browns are really frozen cubed plain variety. 15 min sautee in hot pan, in olive oil too, flip and mix every few minutes. Until all crisped up. Oh and salt. That's it!
Dice and sautee onions in A LOT OF olive oil. Break in a couple of dried chili peppers and add the garlic and sautee some more. Then add the greens (any leafy green or herbs works really). Add salt. Sautee over medium-high heat until they release their water and it's cooked down, cover & cook
the greens were on the 🌶️🌶️🌶️ side so yogurt was a necessity. though that's how we always eat it regardless.
On a white plate three types of food: in the back a mound of sauteed greens with Bulgarian yogurt and in the front, golden brown hash browns and a spiced fried egg.
breakfast? dinner? who cares. our aerogarden crop grew wild so we ended up with enormous amounts of greens. had to eat them while still fresh so Aegean style olive-oil sauteed leaves (spinach, dill, cilantro, celery greens) with onions, garlic, chili pepper. with crispy hash browns and a fried egg.
wrapped up the first draft at 30 pages. we were aiming for 7-10 😬 i am still very excited about it. it is *so good*!
we did, in fact, manage to bring in a practical perspective without overreaching (clearly showing the difficulties). hope to post a preprint soon, once we decide on the venue.
Almonds are very big. Plums are just right.
Can't be helped!
Ooh that's interesting! We do use green plums in some dishes and pickles. But haven't had it like this before.
Hahaha that's what I always wonder too 🤣
To my many colleagues whose emails have gone unanswered…
I’m in the hospital with a miller fisher-adjacent variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome. Basically my immune system is attacking my cranial nerves. Prognosis is good, recovery will be a bit slow.
the uncertainty is really the cherry on top
i'm still irked by no-like replies every time. that's not going away. but at least i've become exceptionally blasé about subposts and i haven't always been like that. that's gotta count as growth!
😭 Similar but hair loss, constant bloating and weight gain, as well as random joint pain for me.
